I actually like those hours

it's in the early evening over here, ideal to finish a laid back weekend

I assume Bahrain pay big dollars to get the opening spot? Because other than that there is no reason why it would be a good one, let alone even a spot on the calendar. I wish Albert Park would get it back one day.

Yeaa, Bahrain to Australia doesn't make sense as a back to back.

Of course, hopefully Bahrain gets canned.

US GP in June? Oh my. There had better be covered grandstands, otherwise attendance is going to be very questionable. I don't know many people willing to suffer 100+ degree temps in the middle of Texas for a GP.

nothing surprising with that, it was obvious that he would take that role up on him if needed

It would be extremely hypocritical not to go there if the government and organisers are willing to host the race and can guarantee the event security.

F1 has always been to countries where there are human rights abuses, or extremely poor people, or similar issues. They go to China. They race in Brazil a few miles away from neighbourhoods where there are outrageous crime rates. Even apartheid didn't stop them from going to SA.

Social problems in Bahrain existed when F1 came there. Nothing changed this year. Sure, it has exploded into awful unrest and people died, but people were not happy before that, they were oppressed, living a miserable life in silence, all while F1 was happily lapping in Sakhir.

I am not saying we should accept that. But it would be extremely weak from the teams to start going emotional right now after shamelessly racing around for years, there and elsewhere, without asking questions.

GP date changes bad especially for fans planning IndiaGP, costs+time off. Racing til Christmas, develop+test new car, 21 race 2012. Too much. Read copiously both sides of Bahrain story. Talked to friends+associates who live there. Thought long+hard about it. Mistake to reinstate GP

Raises a good point. About 6 weeks between the season finale now & the first test of 2012. And then 21 races. Season needs to be early March to mid-November.

And when Turkey will be skipped, we have a month of non-racing, while we got 6 back-to-backs.

Just heard the terrible news about Bahrain. One can only hope that they do a U-turn. It might happen.. it's not unknown for the FIA to go back on a decision soon after they made one.

The simplest of facts is that they cannot guarantee security.

Yes, they do go to China. And Abu Dhabi. But neither of those countries has had their police or armed forces shoot dead protesters in public in recent past, or have harrassed medical personnel trying to treat those injured. The fact that Interlagos is surrounded by slums is neither here nor there.

The problem that most people take issue with is not the social problems within Bahrain. The problem is with the government's response to the publicisation of those issues.

This is a unique, first-time situation for most of the teams, and certainly for most of those individuals now in charge of running them. Their stance on the matter has always been very clear; they don't want to race, they didn't want Bernie to keep trying to reschedule it, and they will only race if the FIA forces them to.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Dear Bahrain,

Stop throwing your money around and never host an F1 race ever again. Feel free to take Abu Dhabi with you.

Yours sincerly, me.

Seriously though. I'd hate to see anybody hurt over the race weekend, but I kind of want something to happen so that everybody can say "I told you so." Maybe just some blockades or protestors on the track or something.

TBH, I'd love to see some teams boycotting the race, but not all of them. Unlikely though, with all the FOTA stuff.

Imagine an HRT on the podium :icame:

And it's great news for people who have booked time off work and flights to India.
