DRS is a good invention, it just needs to be sorted out properly. I really like the FR3.5 method but F1 would never take inspiration from a junior category sadly.

Why not give the drivers e.g. 15 chances to use DRS in a race. And that without the 1s-window.

I don't like DRS on this way. Like in Abu Dhabi, drivers who pass someone at the 1st straight end, will lose automatically the place at the 2nd straight because the other can use DRS. Solution for this could be to change the DRS-activation line before the corner for the straight, so this will not happen. I miss the great fights with DRS, what is a shame. Like last year in Canada, there could be a real battle between Schumacher, Webber and Button, but with DRS, it wasn't. I can enjoy fights without passing.

What is farcical is the blinkered point of view.

Without DRS we wouldn't have had the grandstand finish to the race we had. Simple as that. And no doubt people would have moaned about how boring the race was (rain aside).

What has the end of the race to do with the reason about DRS? When DRS was enabled 2 laps after the SC, Webber and Button could easily pass Schumacher. I think we would have seen an epic battle till the end between Schumacher/Webber/Button. Now it wasn't a battle. A big disappointment for the real racefan. And not all epic battles need an overtake. I think we still love Monaco 1992? Nobody would talk about Monaco 1992 if Mansell could use DRS.

Vettel made a mistake, so it looks like it was a epic battle in the last lap, but Vettel only made his mistake, because he knew Button would easily pass him at he straight for a new fake overtake.

It has everything to do with it, as my final sentence says.

No they couldn't easily pass Schumi and didn't.

How? When DRS was disabled Webber and Button just sat line of stern behind Schumi. There's nothing exciting about that.

This is pretty much irrelevant. Senna was weaving and brake testing Mansell, something that today would get a driver penalised. It was epic but Mansell never got anywhere near alongside Senna on a straight as Senna was defending with all his might.

Regiotap, what do you call a "real battle"?

If it is between two drivers of equal speed, sorry but without DRS they wouldn't even get a chance to make an attempt. For an example of this, watch every fucking F1 dry race between 1995 and 2008. Even drivers one second faster wouldn't even get close to the car in front.

Montoya vs Schumacher in Monza 2002 would have been the race of the century with DRS. Instead, we got a small battle in lap 1 then a snorefest where they followed each other at one or 2 second distance, not being able to do much more.

Even a DRS that is too effective like we saw at Montreal would get very strategic between two drivers doing the same lap times, a bit like slingshot passes on a superspeedway. Nothing stops the other one from passing again, or faking the pass before the straight to get the benefit of opening it etc...

My point is, better overdoing the DRS than underdoing it

Just to point out something I forgot to mention:

Massa's pass (despite Martin Brundle cocking up the calling of it) on Rosberg on lap 2 wasn't DRS enabled but was still pretty much a blast past on the straight....

Just saying, aside from Rosberg in the mid part of the race I can't remember any overtake there reaching the chicane....

In fact, if Vettel was thinking clearer in Canada last year, he would have realised that Button was 1-1.5s/lap faster, let him through just before the DRS detection zone and breezed past him in the activation zones.

Or, judging by the fact that he didn't do that, the DRS zone isn't the free pass that everyone thinks it is.

Does anybody know where Lewis got the Union Jack from on the cool down lap?

I didn't see anything on the Speed coverage, maybe he had it in the cockpit with him?

I think someone gave it to him at the beginning of pitlane.

It was in Canada (last year). And it was wet outside the ideal line, so if he would let pass Button, he would had no grip to get in Button's back.

Are they still allowed to do so? I thought it was forbidden for weight issues (?)

Careful Scotty. There may be some eagle eyed FIA delegates on the board which may read your post and instigate post race xrays so to ensure clever team members don't put lead pellets into their drivers pockets during those hugs!

After the race drivers should be forced to put on a show if they win. Then a panel of judges will give them points for it. if they get more than 7 out of 10 average they get an extra championship point.

It's just too sterile after a victory. Some talk over the radio and some hugging of team members. Donuts till the tyres pop I tell ya, that's what the crowd wants to see. Throwing your helmet into the grandstand, fence climbing ...

The crowd absolutely loves when Lewis does donuts at Silverstone, it's a good way for the drivers to show appreciation to the fans imo.
(can't resist plugging my own video :p)
