what do you mean by "hear the tyres grip"? I thought this would be a silent thing, tyres would just make noise when sliding

Yes, they make a screeching sound when they slide, but racing tyres make a really beautiful sound when they grip into the tarmac in a corner. They are soft and they stick like glue, the enter the pores of the asphalt. And when they are under load in corners, you can actually hear them stick to the surface. It's a very odd sound.
I noticed it when I was standing behind the guard rails at the first chicane at Monza. The driver usually gives the throttle a little squeeze before he turns left into the second part of the chicane. Then the car actually coasts around the corner until the apex. The V8's sounded very soft when they were under no load, that's when I first noticed the noise of the tyres.
I can't really explain it. Perhaps someone here is a professional driver and has experienced it in the car or on the racetrack.

Sorry for the offtopic, but we will have a TBK League again in the Castrol Predictor? Australian GP is getting close!

Melbourne is probably the only race I hope rain stays away. I want to see how the teams compare to each other in dry condition. And since Melbourne doesn't have any lights installed any delay (Charlie Whiting ZOMGWTFBBQ) could lead to an cancellation of the race.

I agree, I remember I had the same in 2012 when it was even a lot more unclear on how the teams compared back then.

Besides, the track in Melbourne is more than capable in producing exciting dry races.

I'd probably agree, although Silverstone 2003 and Nurburgring 2007 were really enjoyable. I couldn't believe it when Canada 2007 had a higher score on the forum than that race. Fairly processional race up front with a load of safety cars + one massive accident was seemingly better than crazy weather + turn 1 car park + Spyker leading + amazing late move around the outside for the lead, banging wheels. Crashes FTW!

Brazil 03 will forever remain one of my favourites, partly because I am a gigantic crash-addict.

EDIT: I mean, I was a gigantic crash-addict back then, of course. I'm mature now.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

apart from the red flags and SCs (20 years ago they would run with no problems), Canada 2011 was great
