I think it has to be a concern for Pirelli now that it's happened across two very different circuits. The problem is If that was the case, every tyre would have that problem after a certain number of laps. Di Resta had done 6 laps on those tyres I think. It suggests a manufacturing problem... |

I don't ever recall seeing tyres fail in this way before. Thing I don't get is that Pirelli said at Bahrain that the issues were caused by debris yet none of the tyres that failed actually lost pressure, They all just threw the tread off. Surely a tyre running over debris would cause a cut that would result in pressure loss rather than just rip the tread off. |

It is confusing. Supposedly Hamilton's tyre failure in Bahrain was a piece of metal that hit the tyre, because the remnants also affected Van der Garde's tyre (who was following behind). It's a very peculiar failure because it looks just like the middle part of the tyre has broken apart. |

Looks to me like the tread is separating from the carcass, it's not beyond the realms of impossibility for a foreign object to cause that to happen without puncturing the carcass itself, but when it starts happening week in week out it's time to look at the manufacturing process. Even if it is a foreign object causing it, there's still a reason the entire tread is pealing off the carcass like that. Back many many years ago one of the manufacturers tried to introduce re-treads into racing, they subsequently failed but the fear of having this type of failure was one of the main arguments against it, even though it never happened in the testing. |
