I predict an anticlimatic win by Hamilton predicting what could had been had Russell being on that car

Kvyat being very honest in post chat saying it is probably his last (qual)lap in F1 on this track. Jeez it's like I finally actually starting to like the guy.

Go to youtube then and watch onboards from your "great era"

This is racing, not driving cars around just for laptime. By your logic we don't need a race, just cars driving around.

Well, that's why I love rallying. No gimmicks whatsoever, just a pure time trial to see who's the quickest. One mistake and you're into the woods or off the cliff, so each corner provides reason for excitement. 8O
F1 practice sessions could also be interesting if just the tracks and the cars would be interesting. V10 would help to tackle dullness at boring tracks like Abu Dhabi, Paul Ricard and Sochi, but I don't mind about V6 or DRS as long as they return to Mugello and other challenging tracks in the future.

I know I probably complained constantly in 2005, but it's because as a teenager I probably cared only about overtakes, so I couldn't appreciate other aspects of the sports and didn't know that it would all go downhill thereafter.

Oh yes, congrats to Red Bull. Maybe it's not going to be Mercedes walkover tomorrow after all.

I do feel like he upped his performance towards the end of the season.

Overtaking is overrated IMO. Thanks to DRS I haven't cared about overtaking for years. It's the battles that are interesting, whether or not they lead to an overtake (or collision).

Thank you. This is the thing that most people fail to grasp. Overtaking in and of itself is not exciting, the battle for position is. You could have a nose to tail, side by side battle with not a single pass being made and it would be infinitely more exciting than someone getting a free pass after pressing a button. If I wanted to watch cars just pass each other with no effort, I'd just watch traffic on the motorway. DRS might as well stand for Delete Racing System, because that's exactly what it is. It gives you the end result of an overtake without the build-up to it. It doesn't give the drivers an opportunity to demonstrate their skill or racecraft. Unlike the push to pass system in Indycar or the overtaking boost system in Super Formula, where drivers can both attack and defend, DRS leaves the leading car as a sitting duck and it's totally unfair.

Anyway, nice to see Verstappen on pole. Hopefully he'll be able to keep the Mercs behind him tomorrow.

Oh God no, those horrible no on track passes seasons with the only overtaking happening at pit stops. No thx.

Give me those 2009-2013 rules, we had some good overtaking back then.

With V10 cars I wouldn't even care about races, merely watching onboard laps at Abu Dhabi or Sochi during Free Practice would be enough to keep me entertained. More than the last 5 seasons combined.

Get the 2022 rules, put an aspirated V10 there and make the cars smaller, so they seem much quicker and exciting from the tv cameras. Done.
