Alonso dehydrated after race
Fernando Alonso was the unfortunate victim of dehydration when stepping out of his Renault at the end of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Spaniard, who started seventh, eventually scored a point despite having no drinking water available for the duration of the race.

With the drinks pump failing before the start and track temperatures at 50°C (122°F), it was no surprise that the Spaniard was not in peak condition after the race. "We did our maximum today," he said afterwards. "The start of the race was not perfect and we lost a position, which put me down to eighth. There were no retirements and we were eighth fastest, so we finished eighth."

Under the medals system only 1st place is decided by wins. After that it's by points, so there's no change from what the standings actually are at the moment.

That explains why Fernando was slower than Piquet during the second part of the race ( http://fialive.fiacommunications.com/en ... alysis.pdf ) Certainly I was surprised about Alonso's performance during the race. He couldn't follow Raikkonen although right now Ferrari and Renault pace are very similar.

Coverage was good, but Legard was pretty awful again. During the middle of the race he desperately scrabbled around with various theories of how the race was going and all of the time was wrong, and he once again spoke in a really awkward, contrived kind of way.
