Overtaking under the SC protest has been dismissed.

The reason given by the racing referees: “The stewards found that car 33 was again slightly in front of car 44 for a very short period of time when both cars were accelerating and braking drove behind car 44 and was no longer in front of him when the safety car phase ended. Therefore the protest is rejected. "

It's a shame that instead of discussing the final result of the race/championship, everyone is debating the controversy thanks to the shoddy job Race Control did today. And let's be honest they've done an extremely inconsistent job all season. As Rosberg pointed out in the post-race, they certainly need to tighten up the rules with regards to driving standards for passing.

But putting that aside and focusing on the competitors, you have to admit that with the opportunities that were presented today to Red Bull and Verstappen, they made the most of them, took some ballsy risks and it paid off spectacularly.

Regardless of what Race Control did, both drivers were worthy champions this year and of course I can certainly see why Mercedes would be feeling like they got royally screwed, but in all fairness with what was thrown Verstappen's way this season, it's not like it feels unfair or unjust at all that he won the championship, even if in controversial circumstances. So bravo to him and Red Bull for getting the job done when it mattered, and giving us an explosive end to the championship. :flag:

back in the 90's the most we could see from it is Michael Schumacher bringing a discussion of a plot of some teams against Ferrari, but nothing else

today the side who got on bad waters by bad calls just made ironic comments, kept the cool and went for it. Meanwhile the dominant force saw their castle crumbling on pillars of sand

The longer that Merc and Red Bull are arguing with the stewards, the less time they have to work on their 2022 machines :whistling:

Advantage McLaren/Ferrari/Alpine for 2002? :?

To be great winners you need to be good losers, Mercedes are just making all their succes the past years look bad now. That call from Toto to Massi was pathetic, Michael no no, this doesn't count. They should have given the place back to Verstappen on lap 1, then they would have been the ones to profit of a free stop in the end. Alonso would call that karma.

Mercedes is arguing. God I’d love to see them be midfield at best next year

Mercedes would have been derelict in their duties to ignore the way the lapped cars were handled. I don’t like this either but as the rules are written, Mercedes have a case. I don’t know what’s to be done about it, but if you’re not trying to hold the officials to their own documented procedures, you’re not doing your job right.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I'm glad it wasn't settled off track, would've been a shitty way to lose a title

Max is champion, it's over. Well done

But I'm sorry

Both Mercedes protests officially dismissed. What will Toto try next? Bring in the lawyers?

They already brought lawyers to the first hearing after the race

I mean are they going to appeal the protest dismissal and drag this out in the courts for weeks/months?

If Toto gets his way, yes. But hopefully others will have more sense and overrule him

Im sorry Toto but youre a bad looser, youve been dominating 7 years. Ferrari didnt cry when the lost in 2006 or 2008 they move on so need you, cuz there always be a next year.
But almost every race this year had some protest after it if they didnt win. Its crazy.
Like Max said Mercedes s protest sums up the season, move on Toto. Next year new chance to get it back
