Bernie would do anything in his power to make F1 more popular in the States ($$$), so if that means bending the rules to make it happen...

Sorry to quote from a few days back, but the threads moved quicker than I have over the past few days. Part of the reason I don't concern myself overly with the politics of the sport as I feel there's nothing I can do about it. If the sport canabalises itself, so be it.

I get what you're saying and to a certain degree I'm in agreement. However what this episode does show is how little respect the sport's authorities and owners have for the fans (and don't forget the third party businesses that rely on the events), when just 7 weeks away from the start of the season certain people are holding the sport hostage in an attempt to milk every last $ out of it.

Let's hope it comes together.

Ten bucks says they'd ruin Wickens' career and make him a driver.

Mercedes has already taken care of that by putting him in DTM.

Just hope they have the budget and direction to get them moving in a positive direction for once.

Yes, Mercedes has done such a horrible thing by making him a paid race car driver in a series he can be competitive in.

He wasn't competitive last season and it's questionable whether he's actually being paid. If his goal is race in F1, given the seven seasons he spent in the open wheel ladder, I believe he's willing take chance with a backmarker team. I can't see how he would be jeopardizing his career.

Schumacher and Alonso are very similar in that they are unique. They were the first of their nation to become champions in their sport, and obviously with their success came the additional popularity and attention of their sport. As time goes on popularity and attention will dwindle. I'm sure Germany and Spain still love F1 and their drivers, but there isn't anything unique about Vettel and Alonso winning, or even competing at the front anymore.

nationality of drivers and winning drivers is just a huge meter of the economic situation of their countries, this due to the fact that motorracing is a very expensive sport.
during the 80/ early 90 there were full of italian an japanese drivers. then came german and spanish drivers and italians disappear and now germans are dominating the sport since many years meanwhile we have an indian driver and an indian team. I would not be surprised if in the near future we will see more and more chinese drivers coming to the sport, and maybe even a f1 team.

 What a lot of arse. I don't mind the random numbers, but man that's hilarious.

And the new Sauber will be the S204-2W. To mark that it is from the 20xx era, has 4 wheels and wings.

According to Autosport.com, here is what Bernie really said about Scorpion...

Bernie Ecclestone says Scorpion deal too late for 2013 season

By Sam Tremayne Wednesday, January 30th 2013, 10:13 GMT

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has played down the chances of HRT suitors Scorpion Racing winning an entry for the 2013 championship.

As AUTOSPORT reported on Tuesday, a group of Canadian and American investors are pushing to try and secure HRT's entry for the forthcoming F1 campaign.

AUTOSPORT understands that the FIA believes the 12th entry slot for 2013 was closed off when it was informed at the end of last season that HRT had been liquidated.

Ecclestone has been in contact with the Scorpion Racing group, and wrote to investors saying: "Have you bought the HRT company? Because if you have, they [the FIA] would be accepting you."

He told the UK's Press Association, however, that an entry for 2013 was unlikely.

"I've spoken to them and told them to get in touch with the FIA and ask for an entry," Ecclestone explained.

"They want to buy all the bits from HRT, then form a company and ask for an entry, but I personally don't think it will happen.

"It's all a bit too late. Maybe they could do it for next year."

The due diligence on Scorpion Racing's buyout plans could be completed this week. A Silverstone base, rather than HRT's Madrid headquarters, has been mentioned.

Perhaps Ferrari should have been more creative with their naming convention for the 2013 car...

F134
Year plus number of wheels

F131
Year plus number of whinging Spanish drivers

F130
Year plus number of wins Massa will score in 2013

F1314
Year plus number of times Massa will be given team instructions despite being quicker than Alonso

F1323924304502138743203243284327321
Year plus number of times Alonso will complain about the team and will state to the media that he will be champion this year

So, Mclaren is next, tomorrow at 10:30 GMT. Any possibility of a livery change?

Then on friday, it's Ferrari at 9:30 GMT and Force India at 10:15 GMT.
On saturday it's Sauber at 11:00 GMT.

Can't wait... :)

Yeah being stuck in DTM worked out well for Paffett and Green. Those McLaren and Mercedes contracted drivers who got shoved into DTM seats to hold them there so nobody else could get them.

when McLaren signed with Vodafone, I hoped that they could use a livery inspired on Bernd Schneider's livery at DTM, with more red. Sadly the keep going with the same sponsors and liveries through the years

Were they really going to go somewhere else? They both have pretty good gigs right now.

They were both Mercedes and McLaren drivers, promised the world. Now Green has finally realised his single seated career is long dead and buried, and Mercedes doesn't care, so he's joined Audi. Paffet has been testing McLarens forever and his career has stalled.

I don't see DTM as a good seat when you're meant to he in F1, having signed for both McLaren and Mercedes junior program's.
