Oh. I was under the impression I had no credibility and was hoping to gain some from this conversation, so it didn't matter really.

Urgh!

Well double points won't matter when Vettel is more than 2 wins ahead of the 2nd place driver having wrapped up the title more than 2 rounds previous to that.

This is pretty much the end of F1's credibility if it goes ahead. All the justification that DRS definitely wasn't a gimmick was for nothing. It's sad that it's come to this

I'm 99% sure this is all related to the fact that Abu Dhabi has the last race

Driver numbers - good.

Cost cap - good.

Double points - Oh good god.

I know everyone will focus on points/numbers, but...

'The principle of a global cost cap has been adopted. The limit will be applied from January 2015. A working group will be established within the coming days comprising the FIA, representatives of the Commercial Rights Holder and Team representatives. The objective of the working group will be to have regulations approved by the end of June 2014.'

Finally!

Post subject:  Re: 2013 Random F1 Discussion

and throughout the year they're going to say it's not good for the teams and the cost cap will be dropped just like the other years

Oh I noticed this. But considering this has been proposed, and accepted / agreed by all teams before, I skimmed straight over this because I doubt it will happen in the manner it is currently being proposed.

Cost cap's irrelevant if no one's watching. Unless they're hoping these new gimmicks are going to attract loads of middle class 10-year-olds with loads of disposable income

Why is it that F1 always reacts to domination with "change the rules, change them now, change everything"?

Well they need to attract this market as they're throwing money at the likes of One Direction.

I hate it, personally. One team should just build a car totally suited to Abu Dhabi and take 86 points :p

This is pretty much what Red Bull already do - more high downforce circuits with fast corners on the calendar so they just build a car that's suited to them. In the past, we had a lot more of a variety of circuits which made domination more difficult. Now every circuit is designed around this idea of a "compromised setup", meaning they're mostly fairly similar in nature, apart from the odd exception. It just so happens that 1) Red Bull have that nailed, and 2) most of them are towards the end of the season, which explains why they has been so dominant in every second half of the season for the last few years

I know there's a different culture in the US, but can you imagine if the FA decided that the Premier League should be decided by a one-off final held in Qatar? This is pretty much the equivalent. Hopefully as with the medals, they'll be forced to reconsider, but usually there ends up being some kind of compromise at the end of it, so it's fair to say that the points system will change in some way, even if it's more points for the last five races or something

Jean Todt and Bernie are feeling like Jules Hatton when he put double points for Sebring and Le Mans on his LMES 2.0 on BATRacer
