A practice session where drivers actually made mistakes and went off the road? I love Suzuka. |

JJ wrote: Wonder if there's asphalt next year, as both di Resta and Schumi went too wide to the gravel and lost it. Actually that was good old fashioned grass, there was already tarmac runoff after the small lip of grass so its a good thing Suzuka is a track that still punishes drivers mistakes. Though its debatable if the cars would have even made the barrier at all if there'd been gravel the whole way through, but that's a tired old debate by now so its probably best not to get into it again. |

I miss gravel flips though, they're photogenic. |

About FOM's coverage, I just hope the tv director to be wise enough to show the onboards on proper time rather than when drivers are cruising on the track. Also, the stand still camera facing first Degner is awesome because it perfectly catches the speed of the car through there. The only problem is that FOM needs to take off the graphics with the laptimes, on the left side, in order to show a clean view of it. |

Seems like there's significantly less grip on the new road surface. |

Watching the OnBoards this weekend, Pretty much everyone sliding around a lot more than usual, Opening DRS on the exit of speed has caused a few to get some snap oversteer. Also HRT & Marussia have been lifting off through 130R, Everyone else is staying flat. Nobody seems able to keep DRS open through 130R as they could last year, Closing it on entry & opening it again just before the exit. Mercedes seem able to open it sooner than anyone else both there & on the exit of the final corner. They have made changes to the grass on the right that Di Resta & Schumacher spun on yesterday.Where the track was resurfaced it had left the tarmac at a higher level than the grass run-off, They have put some extra dirt down in that area to raise it to ensure its now at the same level as the tarmac. |

I'd be surprised if anyone doesn't put in a banker lap early on because of the possibility of yellow flag conditions or even a red flag towards the end of Q2/3 when everyone is pushing like mad. Remember 2009? |
