Well with BMW being a potential front runner next season it'll have to be someone good. It would be intersting if Alonso went there, maybe even *gasp* Button. But overall I think BMW would be making a mistake if they got rid of such an experienced driver in what could be a very important season for the team

I think it depends if it's just a seasonal incompatibility between driver and car or something more deep rooted.

Definitely a few better drivers out there than Heidfeld, but I don't know, it's not a Mc/Ferrari seat yet.

He's got the same problem Kimi has. His one-lap pace is shot because he can't heat the tyres. Which means he starts from 8th whereas his team-mate starts from 3rd.

Haven't they banned tyre warmers next season? So the problem might be exacerbated?

The drivers have been bitching about the banning of tyre warmers so they might change that rule

I thought they were supposed to ban tire warmers for this year but there was so much complaining from the drivers they dropped the idea?

As far as the racing goes, to expect close, wheel to wheel racing week in and week out in F1, or any other major road racing series, is foolish. There are a host of reasons for this, driver talent, quality of the car alone, crew, setups, etc. The best cars usually qualify at the sharp end of the grid and the sorts itself out accordingly. Only when there are events that are abnormal do you get fast cars starting at the back and hacking their way through. When that happens it's special, but it's on special and awesome because it doesn't happen all the time.

Next year will be better as the car will be able to follow each other closer, but in reality this will only help out at the really fast tracks where slip streaming is possible. One of the things that's killed the racing at places like Silverstone and Monza are the chicanes and bastardization of the tracks, but that's a discussion for a different time.

I've been disappointed by Button this year. He really should be outpacing Barrichello by this stage.

They have always been there though (i mean since mid seventies) (except the first chicane)

I expected more from Button this year considering how much he got out of that pile of junk last year.

He would have finished on the podium at Silverstone had he not aquaplaned off on extreme wets.

I know, but when was the last truly great race at Monza? I mean where you've got the top three or four cars in lock step the whole way.

They've also changed the design of the chicanes many times.

That too, which almost certainly explained his 16th place at Hungary. The Seabass incident would be irrelevant if they had given him two proper runs at it.

There is no one on the grid bar Vettel and Alonso who would be worthwhile sticking in the BMW alongside Kubica IMO and they should stick with Nick at least till Kubica gets his Ferrari seat or not.
Some say two new drivers in the team might hurt them come 2010 but it certainly didnt hamper Mclaren in 2007 in the competitiveness sense.

What i really want is Alonso + Kubica in a kickarse Ferrari come 2010 tbh. :D With Hamilton in the Mclaren with the ability to win races.

Senna: No F1 deal signed yet

Quote:
GP2 Series frontrunner Bruno Senna has told autosport.com that he has not yet signed any contract or option with a Formula One team for either the short or long-term.

Senna, who is currently second in the GP2 standings, spoke out to quell media speculation that he has either signed a race deal with Scuderia Toro Rosso, a long-term option with BMW Sauber or a test deal with McLaren-Mercedes.

"There is absolutely nothing going on in terms of signing with anybody in F1," he told autosport.com.

On the subject of possible option deals, he added: "There's not even any negotiations in that sense. First, I still have to understand who has the best options for me to follow. Then we can start negotiating. But at the moment we're still seeking those best options."

Senna admitted that he and his management team are in discussions with nine of F1's teams about possible future roles.

"I'm doing all the things I have to do, chatting to the right people in the F1 paddock, and we'll see how it turns out," he said. "Let's say the only team I haven't spoken to at all is Ferrari. So there's no real logical place for me to go yet.

"We've spoken to many, many people about the best option in both the short and long terms. There's no point in doing something for next year and then having nothing for 2010 or 2011.

"It's a tough time now. It might look very good, because people are saying 'he's looking good in GP2 and he's obviously going to F1' but, really, where? How? I need to find a space...a good space."

The Brazilian said he would not rule out a testing role with a top team if a race seat for 2009 was unavailable.

"Obviously I'd consider it," he said. "At the moment I'm considering everything. Preferably a race drive would be a better option, because I don't want to stop racing for a whole year."

On the subject of whether winning the GP2 title was crucial if he was to proceed directly to an F1 race seat, Bruno said: "In my opinion it's important to deliver. Sometimes things don't go your way, but, trust me, I'll only give up [on the GP2 title] when I have no more chance to win. I'm pretty sure I can do a good job

That's an interesting hint. Dispells the rumours that it's in his contract that he can't play second fiddle

means if they are in situations like Magny Cours, Spa and Interlagos last year and Malaysia this year, Kimi will not gain the advantage during the pitstops I guess.

It seems. No other info has come out of STR's future.

A couple of interested parties were around in Valencia, their performance that weekend probably helped their prospects. It would be a shame if they had to shut up shop altogether.

What they've said is that the team will continue whether or not a buyer comes in. And it has to be a manufacturer

VW/Audi is an option as those 2 companies have links. Hyundai have made murmurings about joining F1 in the past

Basically, they're holding out for a hero (till the end of the night), and they might have to wait a long time if they're being that selective
