I guess this is the best place for this. Seems having someone as odd as Placido Domingo on the podium in Hungary isn't a new thing - just watching the 1996 Belgian GP and athlete Michael Johnson just appeared to present the winning constructor trophy to Jean Todt

Shit race, though - bit mixed up in the middle but not a huge amount of action. And can't believe there was no camera to capture Verstappen's crash

And Williams absolutely screwed over Damon's race.

Yeah, it was quite surprising to see how badly they (and McLaren, to an extent, who left both out there) handled the safety car period - Schumacher dived straight in but Villeneuve continued for another lap or two before coming in, which cost him the race, while Hill started going in, used the escape road to avoid it, and eventually went in a couple of laps later which put him way down the field

I guess it was one of the first refuelling era races with a safety car period in the middle so maybe the teams didn't fully realise the effect it would have. That said, they got it right for Hill in Argentina when Badoer went upside down so I don't know. Maybe they were just slow to react

Perhaps a separate thread for general discussion about old races?

AFAIR Hill dived for the pits but was told by Williams (after he'd committed to the pitlane) to abort as they were giving priority to JV.

IMO FOM should broadcast races on Youtube, have practice sessions free, Qualy $0.25 (maybe free) and the race $0.99. Where the race goes from the F1 graphic in (5 mins before warm up lap) to the F1 graphic out (after podiums). I'd pay for it if they had good commentators, no commercials and it was in HD without any lagging.

It's a better option to use YouTube compared to their own site as YT has much more traffic and extremely fast servers. I think they could make money off of that.

I'd pay for a onboard feed though, to have on along the live coverage on tv.

I'd like to have a point or two awarded for fastest lap. Then we might see some action from teams that are outside the points to come into the pits 2 laps before the end, and instead of 'cruising' to the finish, go as fast as possible to get those extra points.

points awarded for pole position or top 3 qualifying I could live with that.

The number thing on the cars/drivers... I don't know. I like it how it is now. However number 27 will always be remembered with Ferrari/Villeneuve I suppose. 3&4 Tyrrell etc

The FIA is getting it now [and allowing Internet-only journalists into the paddock], but Bernie is very anti-Internet. If it were up to him, the Internet wouldn't exist.

Light towers have been installed around the Bahrain Circuit in time for the WEC race and a night F1 race next season.

About numbers, even if the system was the same as in 1995, I think we wouldn't see Ferrari no longer with 27/28 because it would probably look stupid to have so many empty spots.

I came something like that a while ago.
1996: Ferrari gets 1/2. Instead of 27/28, Benetton gets their old numbers 19/20 which were left vacant because of Larrousse demise. Sauber moves to 11/12 left vacant by Simtek. 16/17/18 is not used because there were plans for Stewart team already.
1997: Stewart gets 16/17. Lola gets Forti's numbers 21/22. Arrows gets 1/2 and Ferrari 9/10
1998: Williams gets 1/2, Arrows gets 5/6. With the team having changed name and ownership, Prost moves to 21/22.
1999: McLaren gets 1/2, Williams gets 7/8. BAR takes over Tyrrell's 3/4.
2000: Jaguar takes over Stewart's 16/17.
2001: Ferrari gets 1/2, McLaren gets 9/10.
2002: Renault takes over Benetton's 19/20. Prost demise happened so near the season so Toyota takes 25/26.
2003: Toyota takes 5/6 left over by Arrows. 21/22 left vacant.
2004: no change
2005: Red Bull takes over Jaguar's 16/17.
2006: Lots of reshuffle with all takeovers. Renault goes 1/2 and Ferrari takes 18/19, with the first one back in use. Honda takes over BAR's 3/4, BMW Sauber's 11/12, Midland Jordan's 14/15. Toro Rosso gets 20/21 after taking over Minardi, Super Aguri gets 22/23.
2007: McLaren gets 1/2, Renault 9/10. Spyker takes over Midland's 14/15
2008: Ferrari gets 1/2, McLaren 18/19. Force India takes over Spyker's 14/15.
2009: McLaren gets 1/2, Ferrari gets 18/19. Brawn takes over Honda's 3/4.
2010: Mercedes takes over Brawn's 3/4. Sauber takes over BMW's 11/12. Of the new teams, Lotus takes 5/6 left over by Toyota. HRT assigned 22/23, Virgin 24/25.
2011: Red Bull takes 1/2, McLaren 16/17.
2012: Name and ownership changes, Lotus takes Renault's 9/10, Caterham Lotus's 5/6 and Marussia Virgin's 24/25.
2013: No change except HRT's demise.

Red Bull 1/2
Mercedes 3/4
Caterham 5/6
Williams 7/8
Lotus 9/10
Sauber 11/12
Force India 14/15
McLaren 16/17
Ferrari 18/19
Toro Rosso 20/21
Marussia 24/25

Talking about arrogance or delusions of grandeur, there's an F1-book with quite a big price tag on it;

Make it 5 or maybe even 8 (with a 25 point system). Make it a bin it or win it kind of situation.

I think in that situation all drivers from place 11 to 16 will pit in for fresh tyres 2 laps before the end and just put in some very fast laps.

yeah, would be some good action in the dying moments of the race.
