Protesting that little inching ahead maneuver seems desperate and misguided. It was meaningless, and Lewis was going SO SLOW.

If those screenshots of the SC car regulations that you all have been posting are accurate, that's what Mercedes should be protesting.

They already lost that by not following their own SC rules.

Mercedes are also protesting the lapped cars stuff. But again, who do you punish? You might get Masi fired, which is no bad thing, but beyond that?

They will try to make the last lap illegal so the results will be based on the order at lap 57.

Did the other teams (Mclaren, Aston Martin & Haas) protested the result for not getting the wave around ?

Unless Max's car fails scrutineering, in which case they will have no choice.

Not everyone remembers it, but it took nearly a month until Kimi's title was confirmed. Could be the same this time.
Quote:
The FIA has rejected McLaren’s appeal of the Brazilian Grand Prix result as inadmissible – thereby confirming Kimi Raikkonen as the 2007 Formula 1 world champion.

After two days of deliberations over the ‘cool fuel’ dispute, the governing body’s International Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Brazilian GP stewards not to penalise Nico Rosberg of Williams and BMW drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, who finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The FIA Statutes require appeals to the ICA against decisions by the stewards of a meeting to be lodged by "at least one of the parties concerned".

Williams and BMW argued that the appeal was inadmissible since McLaren wasn’t an interested party in the stewards’ initial inquiry and did not protest the result at the time, and this argument was accepted by the four independent judges.

Had the stewards’ verdict been overturned, Lewis Hamilton might have been promoted from seventh to fourth place and gained sufficient points to dethrone Raikkonen as world champion.

A key point that will be made will be what comes above the highlighted.

"Any cars that have been lapped by the leader will be required to pass the cars..."

What is any?

Why wouldn't they? What's the time limit during which the protest must be made?

So punishing Max for the failure of Race Control. That would be an interesting precedent - I would imagine Red Bull would immediately respond with retrospective appeals regarding Bahrain etc. (not saying they would work, just saying they would try it).

Instead of being sore losers, Mercedes should protest their own strategists. 2 shots to let Lewis pit which they didn’t take but would have sealed the race

Only the first. Second time he'd have emerged second, not knowing if the SC would come in at all.

the second one was a direct result of the first blunder. It was a cascade effect that put them in a very bad position

I have not been on the forum for the whole of the race, was watching it with a friend, and I must admin I am lazy, and have not read through all the pages, but has someone figured out the rules regarding the lapped cars? Once that is solved, this whole soap opera can be put to rest.

But congrats to Max, they're not gonna take this away from him.

It seems to be generally agreed that Masi made something up on the spot.

he got all messed up. If he wanted a late race action he should had called the red so it'd be a free for all (with Lewis winning unless Max tangled him, Mercedes was much more quicker on fresh tires)

then he thought the race might end under SC and instead told to go slow and once cars pitted it was to late to call the red (it wasn't actually)

If we learned one thing during this season, it is that rules during a red flag should be changed. No free pitstops, no car repairs. Everyone comes in, you are allowed to switch off the car, put on blankets on the tyres, cool air in the engine, and that´s it. Do anything else, and you go to the back of the queue.
