He stayed surprisingly calm

Sounds like Olav was so astonished by the turn of events that he couldn't believe what just had happened.

Nico Rosberg was absolutly right on Sky Sport. If Hamilton would have pitted, that's the championship over for him so Mercedes had no choice.

The SC rules was clear. It would have taken 3-4 laps minimum to clear up everything and lapped cars to unlap themselves.
And if the restart couldn't happen in time, FIA should have red flagged the race but Lewis would still be on pole with new tyres and that's how FIA shoud have done it. Like in Baku.

And we all know that will end up in the trash can  However Masi might be forced out of his post.

now any decision by the stewards will mean they'll have to claim they did shit and have no credibility whatsoever

From what Crofty said after speaking to Masi, Masi said earlier in the weekend he wouldn't bring out a red flag if there was a crash in that area.

Max has now been cited for sticking his nose ahead of Hamilton on the SC restart.

Yeah, that worried me but it didn't look like it from the onboard.

Mercedes are protesting car 33 for a breach of article 48.8
Quote:
48.8 With the exception of the cases listed under a) to h) below, no driver may overtake another car
on the track, including the safety car, until he passes the Line (see Article 5.3) for the first time after the safety car has returned to the pits.
The exceptions are:
a) If a driver is signalled to do so from the safety car.
b) Under Articles 36.15 41.1c), or 48.12, 51.6 and 51.12 below.
c) When entering the pits a driver may pass another car remaining on the track, including the safety car, after he has reached the first safety car line.
d) When leaving the pits a driver may overtake, or be overtaken by, another car on the track before he reaches the second safety car line.
e) When the safety car is returning to the pits it may be overtaken by cars on the track once it has reached the first safety car line.
f) Whilst in the pit entry, pit lane or pit exit a driver may overtake another car which is also in one of these three areas.
g) Any car stopping in its designated garage area whilst the safety car is using the pit lane (see Article 3948.11 below) may be overtaken.
h) If any car slows with an obvious problem.

So next they’ll summon Lewis for almost standing still. Both get dq’d. Max still champion and Sainz first win. Which also would mean Ferrari has a win this season :whistling:

Talk about clutching at straws. This will be canned in no time.

I really hope they don't change any results, I don't know it feels better to win this thing after those blunders

Unless Max's car fails scrutineering, in which case they will have no choice.

Honestly, I know hindsight is 20/20 and all, but is there a reason Merc didn't put a fresh PU in for Valtteri? Seems to me like doing that at least puts him up there with the leaders by the first pitstop with the pace they had. As it was he was struggling to get through the midfield and wasn't there to bust up Red Bulls options at the end. Then, I think the pit mistake for Merc wasn't the SC, but the VSC. With their pace and 15 laps to go, I think they should have went aggressive and put Max on a bad tire strategy by forcing him to go long. They had the pace and by the time they would have caught him(if the race stayed green) he would have had his hands full even if he put up an almighty defense. But either way, they would have had time on their side.
