I would like to see tyres influencing races (ie 2/3 stops), not becoming the de facto issue. Pirelli helped F1 enormously, but today feels a step too far.


Which is fine, but it's not Pirelli's choice. They supply what the customer (the FIA) wants.

My opinion on the tyres is similar to what Croft/Brundle discussed on sky earlier in the race.

I don't mind seeing tyres that wear out & force pit stops & strategy (Although I don't really mind super durable tyres either), But I think what we have now is too much.

I'd prefer to see tyres which allow drivers to push them & that let drivers actually race, But which still wear at a sensible rate & have a reasonable level of performance loss. Maybe something closer to what we had in 2011.

Pretty much this. I'm sure Pirelli have the ability to make a tyre that offers little grip, but doesn't fall apart so rapidly. That way we'd have cars being driven more to the limit, but still sliding around, being difficult to drive, and giving us better battles.

If that's not what the FIA wants, then fine, but forgive me for having an opinion. We are here to discuss stuff, aren't we? :p

Pirelli are just doing what's requested of them. If the FIA decide on another way then they'll do another way.

Less aero grip, more mechanical grip.

It really wasn't a bad race ... it settled down after the start but even then we weren't certain until quite late what would happen with Kimi and Alonso ... it wasn't an all time classic but it was a lot better than the Schumacher era. Last year's race wasn't especially thrilling for what took place but for the unexpected winner and the excitement of that prospect. It was Catalunya, just Catalunya - the tyre situation was different but wasn't what made the race dull, the circuit with a history of 20 years of boring races made the race dull. With different tyres, we'd have had a race that was a different form of dull, quite probably as dull or more dull than this one.

Vettel just said in an interview, that he couldn't push one single lap and that this is very frustrating.

Really gets too much imo, every driver drives for himself but not against others.

The FIA only asked Pirelli to make tyres that would provide strategy options via wear, How extreme Pirelli make those tyres is 100% down to Pirelli.


Alonso had a puncture before his 1st stop & the tread was starting to lift.

So did neither of you (or Vettel and Schumacher for that fact) notice what Alonso and Ferrari (plus Massa) did? That pretty much conclusively proves the point you're both trying to make wrong.
