Is UralKali related in any way to Putin's regime, or are they penalising a private sponsor for virtue signalling just because of country of origin?

Good riddance if Sochi doesn't happen this year. The only positive out of this shitfest. I doubt it though, F1 has already been to countries with active apartheid or oppression (Bahrain being the latest) without batting an eye.

Mazepin's dad was one of the 37 people who met personally with Putin the other day. He was known before to be balls deep in Putin's regime. So, yeah, no. His company is one that is on the US black list.

As reported by a Russian State agency. Google translate if you don't speak Russian. He is listed about half way down.

As an Aussie I would personally love if Alpine wandered down the paddock and said here is some money to fill the void if Piastri gets Mazepin's seat.

If the invasion is over quickly (only by Putin capturing what he wants then declaring victory I guess) then I can still see the FIA being either too in love with money or too scared of Putin to cancel the race

If they do, I still expect the new Russian track/street course to be on the schedule for 2023 anyway

Also that porpoising must be stopped. IDC about the compettitive advantage it might bring, it looks STUPID :whistling:

I don't think any of the teams want the porpoising to happen?

I read that a lot of teams looked into it and Ferrari have decided the benefits of it happening outweigh the negatives
(Basically its the ground effect hitting maximum downforce, then hitting the ground and losing all the downforce, then the cycle repeating again over and over)

The alpine is doing it too apparently...

Oh interesting, so I guess it stalls the floor, giving a temporary boost in speed. Hopefully the FIA tells them no, because yea... it looks redic

I dont think orpoising itself has a benefit. If that happens in a fast turn you'll lose all downforce for an instant and possiby spin out.

It's just that the solutions like reducing overall downforce, or raising ride height, would penalise you too much around the lap, so they'd rather just live with it and the slight incomfort down the mainstraight.

Perhaps the FIA should step in and raise the minimum ride height. This is a safety issue really if it happens in a long corner, and a driver health issue if it keeps happening in straights.

The Race suggested on Youtube that a mass damper solution like the Renault one from the mid 2000s would help.

I like the way the teams are acting surprised, like this wasn't a known phenomenon last time ground effects was a thing. It has certainly showed up a weakness in the simulations and CFD systems.

I expect the FIA will be forced to mandate a minimum ride height - even if the teams don't care about the effect on the drivers, surely cars will end up breaking over a full race length?

Current circumstances... suggests it could be back on if if things clear up before September?

Considering how eager they were to get back to Bahrain...

funny that this cancelation will prompt a 3 week gap between Monza and Singapore. In this already cramped schedule

Perhaps they could go to Mugello or Portimão instead

The scheduled wet tyre test lasted all of 8 minutes. It is now an intermediate tyre test.

All of a sudden the prospect of Brazil having a regular driver on the field once again becomes palpable. And it would happen in a similar way (but at a way larger scale) to what happened when Razia was dropped from Marussia in 2013.

The potential dropping of a shit driver and a shittier track - the only good outcome from all this.

another funny thing is that the final race at Sochi will be that chaotic rain that denied Lando's first victory and allowed precious points for Max Verstappen
