9.3 Traction control
No car may be equipped with a system or device which is capable of preventing the driven wheels from spinning under power or of compensating for excessive torque demand by the driver.
Any device or system which notifies the driver of the onset of wheel spin is not permitted.

Traction control is a reactive system (it reacts to the wheels spinning by cutting power), what Red Bull seem to have built is a predictive system that cuts the power at specific points of suspension travel regardless of whether the wheels are spinning or not.

Scotty is probably best qualified to say whether this theoretical Red Bull system qualifies as "traction control" since he worked on that Electric Car formula thing.

I remember in the late 90s before traction control was allowed, teams used a system that cut power depending on engine revs if it suspected it would cause wheelspin.
I don't know the details, it was Jean Alesi talking about Hakkinen's crash at Imola 1999 and how it could have been caused by a malfunction in that system (given how suddenly he lost control as soon as he applied power).

It was legal because it didn't use any input from the wheels spinning speed, just from the engine itself. Suspension travel as input would be just as legal as it's also predictive as you say, but who knows.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I get that he's trying to be nice to Felipe, but it's a little stupid. What if Kimi's closer than Felipe was?

honestly, it is again a headline out of context. he says felipe is as quick as kimi, which may be true over one lap. but kimi has the consistency which massa lacks.

Throwing on a Unicef tshirt and standing within a group of underprivileged kids doesn't automatically make you a good person.

If it does then I'm off to find the nearest homeless person / tramp and post some selfies on Facebook.

where does his head end and neck start?

He looks like one of those characters from WALL-E.

Maybe it's a bad photoshop that was necessary to do, since Fernando is SO HORRIBLE PERSON that he didn't even bother for a one single picture with a Unicef t-shirt when he heard that he needs to stand in the middle of poor people. :p

Bit of an over reaction there Fabs. He has said that Massa is neither quicker or slower than Kimi. If you want to be blinded Kimiism by all means, but a horrible person for stating a fact supported by results? Please...

Perhaps Fabs was being sarcastic?

I love Alonso's comment:

"When they were racing together, Felipe was as quick as him in a way."

Crucial use of the phrase "in a way". Reminds me of Alan Partridge trying to be nice to his girlfriend: "I love you in a way".

The latest figures reveal that the race promoter, Spa Grand Prix SA, which has been promoting the event since 2006 and has a contract to host the race until 2016, has made significant losses in both 2011 and 2012. The local government pays the debts because it considers the economic impact of the event to be of significant value to the region. The fees paid to Formula One are believed to be in the region of $20 million a year. The loss in 2011 was around $8 million, rising to $10 million in 2012. The results for 2013 have yet to be made public but further losses are expected despite the fact that the race increased its ticket sales by 15 percent in 2013.

Not good, but to be expected sadly.
