Thinking alike :whistling:

Seriously, FIA has to step up and mandate an age critera. This is child abuse.

Agreed, I mean Lance is not too many years out of his Stroll'er...

Not sure how it's relevant when they're aren't any woman or kids being punched

Ok let's take a guess then...

Mercedes x 2
Red Bull x 2
Williams x 2
Ferrari x 3
McLaren x 3
Force India x 2
Toro Rosso x 2
Sauber x 2

Arguably both Red Bull Racing and Mercedes could enter 3 cars but Red Bull have 4 cars already on the grid so I don't see the point in them adding a 5th.

Frankly I can see Red Bull doing 3 cars for both teams. Kvyat to Red Bull and Sainz jr. + another (maybe Verge getting lucky) to STR.

If it does happen however it's a new low in F1. It will hurt teams like Sauber, Force India and Williams. Next step will be 4 cars per team. because the aforementioned teams fold.

Giving the teams a bigger share of the profits and allowing more freedom with different paintjobs will help F1 much more than losing teams and going to 3 car teams.
Imagine the Ferrari dominance years with 3 Ferrari's. The horror.

If we get 3 car teams, hopefully the stupid rule about the cars of one team needing to be the same livery will be scrapped. But we could see some interesting driver changes with new top seats becoming available.

Hopefully it won't happen though

That needs to be scrapped regardless. liveries shouldn't even be the same for the entire season. If it's financial interesting to run multiple liveries on the car during the season, let them. I bet there are enough companies out there not willing to sponsor an entire season but would be tempted to see a car run in their colors at their "home" grand prix.

Just think, Button could have had a special pink car at Silverstone instead of just a pink helmet.

Is the livery rule from FIA or FOM?

We'd have an entire new topic here, just like in the NASCAR section, dedicated to special liveries.

I have stated before that this would be the last straw for me with F1 which has gone worse every year since the beginning of the millennium. :(

Hearing these news is like listening to a person with split personality. On one hand FIA opened slot for 12th and 13th team which were quickly taken by Haas and Forza F1. At the same time there's a strong urge for cost-cutting which would enables smaller teams to operate. On the other hand we hear (usually from Bernie and Montezemolo) that there will definitely be 3rd cars.

They should continue with cost-cutting plans, which would automatically bring more teams. Also FIA should be less strict with applications of the new team, so that red tape won't take 6 months while a team cannot operate adequately. Every team eager to participate should be allowed to take part for example in Friday pre-qualifying where 26 cars will continue.

Small teams are essential part of F1. The most memorable moments of the series are those wonderful highlights of the small teams such as Stewart GP taking a victory, Webber finishing points for Minardi, Takuma Sato with Super Aguri overtaking Alonso or Force India getting a pole. I don't want to imagine a future where race after race the results will be like Mercedes, Mercedes, Mercedes, Ferrari, Ferrari, Red Bull, Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren, McLaren, Williams, Red Bull, McLaren, Williams, Williams etc. :yuk:

Since most teams operate with team orders these days, 3 car teams would be a disaster for F1

yep. brazilian motorsport confederation stopped allowing foreigners after that

funny that the champion at the time (Fernando Croceri) brought 3 drivers from Argentina to fill F3 grid 18 years later

Caterham/Lotus & Marussia/Virgin have been in F1 since 2010 and have done fuck all. Nothing notable except crash. One points finish in a high retirement race (which if the old points system was in place, wasn't a score). Both teams have been an embarrassment and never belonged in the sport. Only other exciting moment was when they were battling at Interlagos for 11th in the constructors for 15th or so position. Was like seeing 2 disabled people trying to box on with their shoelaces tied together.

What Formula 1 needs is pissant organistations with $20m, an apple 3 with 1 design program, a whim and a prayer. They need manufacturers who can outlay several hundred million a year and be competitive.

F1 won't change one slight bit if Caterham and Marussia go, apart from slightly less crashes (which I guess is why people are upset because they enjoy the carnage)

I don't think it's the case, but every time I read a post like this of yours, I imagine you *literally* raging behind your computer screen. Like, really raging in a "FUCK I NEED TO GET THIS OFF MY CHEST RIGHT NOW" way.

I agree liveries need to be opened up, but you also don't want it like NASCAR which has taken the different paint scheme every race to farcical levels. Maybe just allowing teams to run different sponsors per car.
