"Let's not forget that Senna that year used to turn up minutes before practice, the team not even knowing if he would drive that weekend or not"

Which would make Michael's claims that they were sabotaging his car in a conspiricy even more stupid.

Sebastian Vettel still an immature F1 driver - Jacques Villeneuve
By Michele Lostia and Pablo Elizalde Wednesday, November 14th 2012, 10:35 GMT

Sebastian Vettel still needs to mature as a Formula 1 driver according to former world champion Jacques Villeneuve, who believes the German "reacts like a child".

The Canadian, who won the Formula 1 title in 1997 with Williams, believes Vettel's Ferrari rival Fernando Alonso is a stronger driver when it comes to dealing with adverse situations.

Villeneuve, however, reckons Vettel is nearly invincible when he can lead a race from the front.

"I have no doubts: Fernando Alonso is the best, that's why I root for him," Villeneuve told Autosprint magazine.

"Seb is super quick, but there is a difference with Fernando that emerges in case of an unfavourable situation.

"Alonso remains calm, cool, and rational, while Vettel most of times gets upset, angry, screams and flicks the middle finger. He reacts like a child.

Do I see things wrong? I always see Alonso waving with his hands when things are not going perfect. In Abu Dhabi with Webber at qualifying. And let's not forget his finger to Petrov two years ago...

No. Both Alonso and Hamilton have acted "immature" when things go wrong. I don't know why Vettel is being held to different standard. Seems like its more jealousy than anything else.

Are we really comparing a 25yo to a 31yo?

They are both extremely talented, but obviously Alonso is the best (DURR, Jacques...). He's way up there, specifically because he has a lot more experience.

Let's go even further: if we factor the age in, Vettel seems more mature than average, and Alonso a bit less IMO.

It is a nothing story conjured out of a minor comment JV made. It is clearly a slow news day.

Every day when there is a story from JV is a slow news day.

Surely JV mixed up Vettel and Alonso in that interview.

News just in - guy in his 20s acts like a guy in his 20s.

Later tonight - washed up driver desperately tries to stay relevant by making ignorant comments. More at 11.

I guess JV wasn't following Fernando during his 20s...

can't agree with you on that one kals. Even in his thirties he has the same childish character when things are going against him.

He has gotten better imo but I won't disagree with your post there. In any case, its weird that JV would make such a comment about Seb given Nando was much worse when he was Seb's age lol.

Comparing JV, Alonso and Vettel, JV was the most mature driver BY FAR in their 20's. Probably because he had spent time and won titles in other top-line forms of racing before. The only other rookie that compares with JV in latter years would be Hamilton then, but he flipped out starting in China 2007. He hasn't really been the same since I reckon.

"I really do wonder what Jacques Villeneuve thinks about the current state of F1 and its drivers"

Said no F1 fan ever.

Yet still he offers his opinion....

I liked him the first 2 years and then he slowly became the guy that thinks he's greater than everyone and yet never produced a decent result since winning his WDC.
Irivine was like that as well...Big mouth, no results to back it up.

They both had great results in the past but once they start having a big mouth the results where gone.

Actually the other way around, but I'm with you on that one.

There's also the fact Jacques never liked grooved tyres. He should have left F1 back to CART in 1998/1999 and saved himself the embarrasment.

Also, it seems we can't mention JV in a thread without it turning into a discussion or tribute of some sort
