To have been a fly on the wall in the design and engineering meeting when that car concept was signed off. "I've got a great idea... let's raise the engine, gearbox and cooling in the car by a couple of inches. That'll catch every other team by surprise while they focus on lowering the centre of gravity" Still, it was a beautiful car. |

Jean Claude Migeot thought Ferrari just wanted to look good, that's why their early 90's focused more on looks rather than performance plus not having all the driving aids that Williams and Benetton had at the time |

The F92A was a dog |

Something I find interesting is that with the focus on aero over technology in the F92A, it didn't have active suspension. That is until late in the season when it was installed only on Larini's car, which meant his car was 30kg heavier than Alesi's. |

The 1980 McLaren was one of their worst cars ever |

Indeed, even Fittipaldi earned more points than McLaren and was already at downfall |

I always like to look up how many points teams would have scored back in the day with the current points system (minus the fastest lap point which I haven't factored into my figures yet) McLaren would have scored 80 points in 1980 with that system, which would still have put them 5th in the WCC, just ahead of Lotus, Tyrrell and Ferrari (Fittipaldi do less well out of it proportionately). By comparison McLaren scored 27 points in 2015 and 30 in 2017, their worst seasons in recent times, and they're currently on 111 Incidentally, Minardi would've scored 71 points in 1993, their best season. Always a good barometer |

to see how much the past championships weren't so keen on consistency. actually Fittipaldi relied on 2 podium finishes that season, on the (not so)iconic Skol livery I also like the characteristic stencil type of the numbers at the time |

They had a really strong team that year. Hadn't realised until listening to Emmo on Beyond the Grid they had Harvey Postlethwaite and Adrian Newey as well as two world champions driving. Skol pulling out was really bad timing - they were just getting good |

That would have helped the team so much if the deal went through. But if it was enough in the long run? |
