What's weird about the calender is that next year the Vettel celebrations championship run in will feature only one early morning race and 3 evening (prime time in Europe) races.

It's not traditional but I can get used to evening races.

Even though its logistically insane, Bernie should toss up his idea to run a race through times square again.

I'm pretty sure at one point he mentioned wanting to do that

Instead of throwing millions at a street race, throw a few bob to Road America or Sebring, even Watkins Glen.

and see a perfectly good track getting raped? No thank you.

Valencia is dropped from the schedule and Monaco wouldn't even been considered if it didn't have any history.

If the FIA had their way they would add miles and miles of runoff area's to the likes of Watkins Glen.

How would they rape it? Probably add 1 chicane before the kink and that's it. Still would be better than most of the tracks on the grand prix calendar. It's not that unsafe you know. Valencia still gets races and the final corners are a death trap. Monaco is as dangerous as ever, injures drivers all the time. Don't be so pessimistic and say they would rape it.

All new tracks on the calender need to comply to FIA Grade 1 technical specifications, which as we all know means constant radius turns, 3.8km of tarmac runoff and 289 foot wide racing surface (ok, slight exaggeration on the last one, but you get the picture).

That's why when Brazil is upgraded, the first turn will meet the new standards, but the rest of the track will remain unchanged, the specs apply to new or new parts to a track, it's not a retrospective one.

So saying they would rape somewhere like Watkins Glen or Road America, is pretty much on the money because not one part of those tracks complies with the requirements to host a F1 event.

Obviously the other most important thing is having a big enough building to house the Paddock Club as well.

Road America would go bankrupt trying to get up to F1 standards.

Felipe Massa makes his experienced case for another contract extension at Ferrari

Felipe Massa hopes his familiarity with the Ferrari team could make him indispensable for next season.

After a deeply disappointing 2013 campaign hitherto, in which he has garnered less than half the points of team-mate Fernando Alonso, the Brazilian is under mounting pressure to deliver a repeat of the sudden upturn in form that spared him the axe 12 months ago.

But according to Massa, it's his experience, rather than his results between now and the end of the season, that may earn him an unexpected reprieve.

"You cannot forget that Ferrari knows me very well, there isn't a team that knows me more," Massa said during Thursday's press conference at Monza.

"Everything starts from zero next year - different car, different rules - so experience from the driver will be important as well. The results of this race will not count more, it is everything together."

Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Hulkenberg, Paul di Resta and Jules Bianchi have all been touted as potential replacements for Massa if he is dropped, but the veteran is held in high esteem and even higher affection at Ferrari with team boss Stefano Domenicali admitting last week that he hoped the 32-year-old would earn a contract extension.

"My favourite choice would be, of course, to keep Felipe because Felipe is a very good guy - very dedicated to the team - and when you look around there are not so many drivers out there that you swap and they immediately deliver," Domenicali said.

"But, of course, we need good results from Felipe, so that's why we will not rush as we have to make the right decision for the team. As soon as we have made up our minds we will announce it officially to silence the rumours once and for all."

Oh FFS. WTF does he do to keep his seat. It sure isn't something on the track.

Although I've been on the defensive with Massa this past year or so, I'm back to my opinion of early 2012. Enough is enough. Time to move on. I'm not sure what Ferrari are afraid of, or what photos / evidence Massa is using to bribe Di Montezemelo with.

I've seen teams being less patient with capable drivers.....

If familiarity was helping Massa he'd be doing better then he is.

from his own beg

"Everything starts from zero next year - different car, different rules".... So having a new driver wouldn't hurt them more either. Enough experienced drivers that can do better.

Or you could say someone who knows the team well will communicate easier while they develop this new car.

Post subject:  Re: 2013 Random F1 Discussion

Bernie says there are potentially 22 races next season, despite an agreement with the teams to keep it to 20. He also says they didn't release that calender.
This was in an interview with sky. Apologies if I missed this on a previous page.
