Ah, makes sense. Mind you, I liked Barcelona :(

The problem with the 2000s was the cars being too fast and too perfect, driving aids making it even worse. It's like they were on rails. That didn't look like racing at all in the first place, even with only one car on track.

I liked Barcelona too, but we only liked the race because it was refreshingly different with no Mercedes dominating and having a new winner. But in actuality no racing of note happened. For the top four places, passes were completed through pit stops and on-track passing was next to impossible. Kimi could only sit behind Max and Daniel was only able to try one unsuccessful manoeuvre on Seb.

No, I really mean that I liked the actual on-track racing, not the circumstances. In the early 2ks, they'd have followed each other but you knew that nothing would have happened because of dirty air, reliable TC systems and no DRS. Here, they were sliding around trying to get a run on each other, and DRS keeps you on edge because you really need to nail those pre-straight corners. Nothing happened, but what makes excitement is the possibility.

I've grown past expecting people to pass and re-pass each other. It only ever happens in smaller series or in perfect conditions like Bahrain. In F1, if passing is easy, the faster car storms by at the first attempt, and goes in the distance. You get more overtake stats on paper, but less tense races. I'd rather be just on the "difficult to pass" side of the unreachable equilibrium.

Once again this year I won't see the race LIVE as I will be driving back from Brands Hatch

With these tracks there is little room for being punished for a mistake. Go wide and just gun it on the tarmac runoff. No grass and gravel to slow you down.

I know its not the magic bullet, but I firmly believe that if we had gravel and grass back at the edge of circuits just after the kerbs (rather than a 5 meter strip of astro turf which isn't even a safety feature) then I think we would see more natural overtaking, as it would mean drivers would, heaven forbid, have to get off the throttle or feather the throttle if they stuff up instead of just taking the sort cut, creating opportunities for those behind that get it right.

The risk of rain for Sunday has increased. And luckily we're talking only light rain, not 2011 kind of monsoon :)

Since Palmer is a champion and he's crashed so much this year, it'll be a miracle if he doesn't find the wall of champions.

Yup. Drivers now can simply go over the limit without having a meaningful 'penalty'. They can simply go on the runoff tarmac and try again. It's a two-edged swords. Less penalty to try an overtake (good), less penalty for making errors (bad). But bring back gravel for god sakes. This racing between the lines is ridiculous. Why don't we go to Egypt in the desert, just put a 2 km by 2 km slab of ashpalt there and paint over another Tilke layout. Brilliant.

Bravery should be awarded, mistakes punished. That's why Montreal is such a respected and loved venue.

lmao

Love how Sky F1 are selling this as THE MOST UNPREDICTABLE CANADIAN GP. Seriously?
Unless it rains, Mercedes will be half a second a lap quicker.
