The startline has been moved 240 m forward to turn 1 this year...well this is quite a lot if you ask me. The rundown to turn 1 at the start will be pretty short...

Any Reason?

Probably to favour the spectators on the new main grandstand with a better view on pre race stuff and so on.

Well I don't have anything against it as we will have better view as well from my point of view over the weekend.

Here you can see the new starting lights. The position of the start line is just about 50m before the pit exit.

Mclaren with their now customary pre-event "fighting talk": http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93192

Of course they'll end up be half a second or more off RBR, probably behind Alonso as well. Jenson will complain of balance issues. Lewis will moan the car needs to improve yada yada, rinse and repeat. Whitmarsh will spout some PR guff to Jake and the gang come Sunday.

Why is that bad? The cars should be able to pass on the front straight without the DRS, it was always more difficult at the chicane.

I have the felling they would just fly by the car in front in the other straight. Like in Turkey. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I have a feeling that maybe even DRS won't make it able to pass on this circuit. Maybe my memory is wrong again but in my mind Nürburgring is one of the hardest circuits to pass on dry conditions, isn't it?

Barcelona defeated DRS, hope it won't be the case here but I'm not expecting a fantastic race without rain.

The problem with the old first chicane was that as second part (left-hander) was tighter driver who went through the gravel and came back could cause chaos.

This F3000 crash shows and example

Btw, that's Fernando Alonso in yellow Telefonica car.

And on the overhead shot you can see Mark Webber getting spun at the back and being collected in the middle of the road. Had a look at that entry list and 9 drivers from that race went on to race in F1. Fernando Alonso ,Mark Webber ,Christjan Albers, Stephane Sarrazin, Sebastien Bourdais , Franck Montagny , Justin Wilson, Enrique Bernoldi and Tomas Enge. Though only 2 proved to be any good.

Lotus are set to make an announcement this morning. About what, I don't know. From what I gather though, it should be that Chandok replaces Trulli.

Hoping that this is the case!

I'm really happy for Kaurn. He's a proper motorsports geek and a very nice guy too. I hope it's for more than just the one race, although it doesn't sound likely.

It's about time.

Also, in case it rains we won't have to wait for the track to be bone dry to see the safety car pull away.
