Not surprised, really. It never looked like a very solid project.

About rumours that Mercedes might have extra 100hp against Renault and Ferrari. What about the efficiency? They have limited amount of fuel to use. What if that extra power comes with the cost of better mileage or race pace? Maybe Renault and Ferrari have wider power band to use, while Mercedes is all about the high rpm peak. It's way too early to talk about Mercedes domination, maybe after winter tests, but not yet.

That's not a surprise.

EDIT - looking through the article, this product seems intriguing

Quote:
Michelin would want a chance to showcase its high levels of technology, including tread-free 'slick' tyres that can be used in wet weather.

As far as I know this particular tire has been used at Le Mans this year for the first time.

I'm guessing it is an ultra-soft compound that is along the lines of an intermediate, which can only be used in lightly wet conditions?

And opinion amongst the drivers has been split, Some think that tyre is fantastic while others absolutely hate it.

More like 2005.

F1 2014....no pit stops, overtaking or anything interesting. ...but everyone will be running around fuel saving due to the engine rules.

Yay

But that will make cars pass right? just like the current tyres do. What difference does it make to you as long as cars are passing if you like current f1?

Ultra soft but absorbent tyre. It soaks water in and uses heat to evaporate it. The conditions it works isn't as lightly wet as you'd think, but the results vary per team. Some cars said it worked great, other cars it didn't. But it's an experimental tyre so this is expected.

Thanks ellis, that is good to know. Was there a particular type of car that suited the tyres better?

It’s still possible that something could happen with Ferrari, but it is starting to look as though they may again stick with Felipe Massa.
