now imagine this standing start rule. A SC goes out and we'll have a new start. ok, the cars start but 3 get caught in a crash. new SC and new start and so on until the race ends with no running drivers |

Yes because every start results in retirements. |

It's ridicilous if this will happen. It's the same when you are 2-0 up with football, but when there is a injured player, you go back to 0-0. |

I can see only one scenerio where a standing restart could make sense and would be welcome by everyone: a start behind the safety car due to rain. Give the drivers a few laps to dry out the racing line a bit and then start the race normally. |

No more finger noses next year: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/114548 The safety car standing start idea is idiotic. I can just see it causing more problems on the restart laps much like Indycar's double file restarts did. Drivers who have been stuck mid-pack will be more likely to try crazy moves through the 1st corners which could lead to more safety cars & more restarts. Like they say in America, cautions breed cautions. |

standing starts after safety cars are not the way, but somebody should stop that practice of the leader holding up then jump starting and gaining a great gap |

Why shouldn't the leader be able to get that gap back? People seem to forget that the safety car is just that - a safety car. Not a "randomly bunch up the field halfway through the race for shits and giggles" car, which sadly is how most race directors seem to view it these days. |

But what about the mechanicals? Having the cars sit on the grid mid race will increase the chances of overheating, clutch issues, etc... |

What's the difference between a safety car and a red flag then? One of those proposals that will never get through..... |

In my whole time of watching f1 I can only remember on instance of a lead change happening off a sc restart and that's brazil 01 Actually tell a lie....the ailing hakkinen caused one in aus 99 didn't he? Overtakes immediately after things have cooled down for 5 or so laps are rare sadly. |

He went off at T15 before the restart, gearbox issues apparently. Montoya then outbraked Schumacher in T1. |
