to make an elimination format, it would be necessary to have a direct race between 2 or more drivers, like a sort of 3 lap races defined by the practice times and with a progressive knockout, until there's 2 left to race for pole position

Going back to 60 mins? Have we forgotten why it was changed in the first place? Zero running until the last few minutes. You might just as well give a 10 min super shootout session. Everyone can be a winner!

Single lap Q is the best compromise. Mistakes are punished yet everyone gets a clean lap.

Is there any sense in waking up at 6 a.m.? Any chances of rain or Hamilton's engine blowing up? :/

Max Verstappen. But then again, I'm Dutch.

Why not do [best fp3 time]x12=[qualifying time]. Rounded to the next minute.
So if best time is 1,23 they have 17 minutes to run a max of 12 laps to set a time.

How about we all just watch the 2006 or 2008 Australian GP instead ?

Back then I was crazy enough to wake up early in the morning and watch it live, now I'm not sure if I wanna watch the race highlights on the evening news...

It's sad how a sport I loved since 1999 has become such a mess and the only thing that F1 has succeeded in the last years is making a total ass of themselves. Please appoint competent people with well thought ideas and keep those retarded regulations and penalties to an absolute minimum. And have some respect for the fans while you're at it !

Going to bed now, estimated time of snooze : 8,5 hours

Thank you and goodnight

Williams have had to change Bottas' gearbox so he's got a 5 place grid penalty.

There's also talk that there planning to reduce the radio restrictions to allow discussions about race strategy.

Sky using a virtual spectator type tool which there apparently getting from FOM to compare lines, braking/acceleration points & gear changes of the 2 Mercedes final qualifying laps.

Cool stuff 8)

The ban on that is just downright dumb. So the team aren't allowed to tell the drivers if they have fitted a different compound of tyre? The driver has to figure it out themselves, while trying to adjust their race pace themselves not knowing what they were given, while trying to manage the most complex cars in the history of the sport? Also they aren't allowed to say, hey, we want to do a three stopper instead of two. You know that classic Schumacher Hungary 1998 race? Yep, not gonna happen with this strategy ban.

Also did anyone notice in FP2 with Rosberg's front wing under neath the car the commentators were saying they are unsure if the team was actually able to tell Rosberg about it? Did that count as critical? Does anyone know if the team actually told him about it?

Back in the days the race used to start at 10h30pm-11pm. The recent later start times made it more difficult for us East-Coasters lol

Gotta power through, hopefully it's entertaining enough to stop me dozing off.

Whiting/race control has lighten up on the pit strategy chat restriction apparently according to the NBCSN coverage, as well as the penalties for going over the radio restrictions.

one thing they should have banned was communicating team orders over radio (either let them race, or get it on a pit board)

I think pit strategy chatter and coaching to keep the cars running should be allowed at least
