Aren't teams and drivers already punished enough if a wheel comes loose? It costs them the race. And it's pretty clear no-one will do it on purpose so it's not like they try to injure someone in the pitlane. This is not something they do to gain an advantage. Even if you put a timelimit in place, like minimum of 6 seconds, they work bloody fast to hit the exact 6 seconds mark. Maybe they should go for more than 1 lugnut? It's less likely all of them aren't put on so the wheel will wobble but not come loose |

I never understood the 'penalize the team, not the driver' comments (not just F1 but other motorsports too) for that reason. It's not like the top teams even depend on the prize monies to get by, so they can take a hit by way of fines or constructor points if it means having the driver get away with whatever cheating they do. |

The team could just change engines/gearboxes whenever they please if the driver doesn't get a grid penalty. They will just cop the points loss. |

It would be cool if there was a tyre that could make it all the way to the finish, but the fastest way was still one or two stops. I think it was 1990 when Benetton kept trying to get through the races without pitting. They often ended up in the lead, and the others had to fight past to take the win (Senna vs Nannini at Hockenheim was a good battle). Piquet even won a couple of races without pitting. I like that kind of strategy. The current rules don't encourage anything like that. You have to run both compounds. |

Part of me also thinks though that they'd put the numbers into their supercomputer, it would spit out some numbers and everyone would run a very similiar strategy anyway. |

True. Sometimes the fastest strategy requires you to have to overtake other cars, but DRS is making that all too easy anyway. |

Dubai is set to host F1 testing sessions prior to 2014. A pity it's no addition to the real schedule.
