If Perez had already dropped out prior to the GP weekend then Sauber could have prepared Gutierrez for his debut. But they are already part way through a GP weekend the team need to be concentrating on the setups and fine tuning rather than getting an almost newbie upto speed with driving an F1 car.

PdlR would have been heavily involved in the development of this car during 2010 so its a natural choice to get him back in at short notice.
