What are they for exactly? I mean, at least they are not covering the wheels completely, so we can still expect flipperz after wheel-to-wheel contact :p

I meant those hub-cap like discs covering the wheel faces similar to what we saw in 2008. What exactly is the point of those hub-caps? I was looking forward to seeing how the tast new 18" wheels look on the cars, but these things ruin the visual effect :/

they claim is to compensate and avoid dirty air

but seeing how Mercedes worked their way of working tyring temperatures by modifying the wheel design I'm quite sure they're looking forward to take away gains from these either

Rule changes following the Spa farce:

Also, sprint races in Austin, Austria and Brazil. The top 8 gets points and it doesn't give pole position.

Spoiler:
Here's a full breakdown of the new points system per scheduled race distance completed:

No points will be awarded unless a minimum of two laps have been completed by the leader without a Safety Car and/or Virtual Safety Car intervention.

If the leader has completed more than two laps but less than 25% of the scheduled race distance, the top five finishers will be awarded points as follows:

1st – 6 points
2nd – 4 points
3rd – 3 points
4th – 2 points
5th – 1 point

If the leader has completed 25% but less than 50% of the scheduled race distance, points will be awarded as follows:

1st – 13 points
2nd – 10 points
3rd – 8 points
4th – 6 points
5th – 5 point
6th – 4 points
7th – 3 points
8th – 2 points
9th – 1 point

If the leader has completed 50% but less than 75% of the scheduled race distance, points will be awarded as follows:

1st – 19 points
2nd – 14 points
3rd – 12 points
4th – 9 points
5th – 8 point
6th – 6 points
7th – 5 points
8th – 3 points
9th – 2 points
10th – 1 point

The proposed updates to the F1 rules are set to be made official after approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

all of that just to stop championships to be decided by a 0,5 point margin

Austin? I thought they announced Imola, but Austin makes a bit more sense, as a sprint race in Imola sounds pointless.

The less sprint races the better. They still want to make that BS work but good luck in overtaking at Imola  If this thing didn't work at Monza then it won't work at Imola either.

Seems like Spa will remain the last ever race where drivers got half points. Huh.
But definitely improvement over the previous rules. For sure, no points should have been awarded in Spa last year, so at least similar farce can't happen anymore.

Also, while I'm not happy with the inclusion of sprint races, with a 23-race calendar mere 3 sprints is no the end of the world. But still, if Liberty wants some "extra" for the weekend, why not do something original? Have a race with F3 cars, or Porsche Supercup cars. That would be fun. Or have a run contest around the circuit. Or re-introduce the rowing competition in Montreal, just give points this time. I wanna know who's the fittest driver on grid!

You're right, dunno where I read Austin. It's Austria, Imola and Brazil.

The wheel caps are for cooling. The 18" wheels cause more heat to be generated by the tyres meaning the brakes and inside the hubs need to be cooled more.

I agree though, i love the look of these cars but the wheel covers ruin them. But they seem necessary.
