Come on, this is the country that grinds to a halt when a few millimetres of snow falls :p

Oh I know. I'm amazing myself that I'm even discussing / arguing against the British weather. But then again, I've over 10 years experience of working at Silverstone, various events in different capacities, as well as merely attending them as a spectator. So I know what a fuck up is and what certainly is not. Blaming the organisors for the horrendous and continuous weather experienced on the build up to the GP and then being unable to adequately / correctly deal with something that is almost impossible to overcome in even normal circumstances is unfair and just plain wrong.

Okay, there was horrendous rainfall on a saturated ground. You cannot blame for Silverstone for that. But it had been forecast in the lead up that Friday was going to be very bad weather + there was a lack of communication between different groups of people.

It was unavoidable that there would be problems, but they could have been slightly eased with a better contingency plan.

I think your expectations are far too high. There is so much that goes into an event like this, so many considerations and plans and backup plans, so many different factors that affect the running of the event, that one small kink in the plan caused by an outside influence that is beyond anyone's control can prove to be catastrophic.

As I mentioned before, even under normal circumstances something like that is almost impossible to overcome. But you still expect an event which has tens of thousands of spectators, staff, personnel, third party operators and providers, police and other local authorities, to be able to quickly provide a better more suitable contingency plan? Silverstone isn't perfect by any means, but having those high expectations is unrealistic.

I'm not sure if/when I'd go back to Silverstone. I don't find it particularly good for spectating (miles from the track and no photo friendly fencing), and the cost of going to the F1 race is getting way too much.

I could probably attend every BTCC race for the same price of the best F1 ticket. If I was wealthy, I'd go to Silverstone, because it's F1. In terms of value for money though? Poor.

So do what every other clued-up British F1 fan does and go. to. Spa! Better track, better facilities, similar weather, better chocolate, less cost.

Leave Silverstone for the fairweathers and corporates.

I'm hoping to do Spa this year.

Spa does have downsides, but if you were to choose between the two (and especially if you live in the South of England) then Spa's better.

Everything was more affordable before buying a house. :(

So, Englishmen, how's the local weather prediction atm, please?

I would like a complete dry Friday and Saturday and all day rainy Sunday, but I can see the inverse happening once more, as has been the case this year, given my luck :(

Friday looks like a total washout, Saturday and Sunday are bone-dry.

Plenty of time for McLaren to test their updates...

Webber will quit F1 at the end of 2013 and move to Porsche as predicted.

Kind of got the feeling that next year there will be no Australians on the grid. Ahh back to the late 80s and mid 90s.

You're probably right. Ricciardo has been decent, but I'm not sure it's good enough to take Webber's seat, and we all know how long Toro Rosso tend to keep hold of their drivers.

Still, it's always good to see a shake up at the top. I wouldn't have minded Webber having another season at a different team though.
