But seriously, the officials need to define "avoidable collision".
I agree.

The thing I don't get about this avoidable contact penalty is that sometimes drivers are penalised when no harm was done to the other driver.

Di Resta today for instance hit the car ahead & as far as im aware only did damage to his own front wing so had basically already penalised himself. Same when Alonso clipped the back of Hamilton at Sepang, He basically penalised himself & it didn't effect Hamilton's race.

I feel that a penalty should only be handed out if contact is made which results in the car which wasn't at fault for the collision suffering damage, getting spun off & losing time/places or getting taken out the race there & then.

If contact was made which resulted in no damage to either car or only affect's the car who's was at fault for the contact I see no reason to penalise anybody.

Looked at the replay of the hairpin accident, I'd say both Hamilton and Massa should have a penalty in some way or other, Hamilton took a clean move on the inside, but Massa doesn't give him space and takes the corner as always and collides with Hamilton so he has to drive on the curb. After that does it look like Hamilton takes a wide exit of the corner and continuously pushes into the side of Massa.

In such a tight corner the drivers are using full lock on the steering wheel in order to get around the corner. So running a tighter line is physically impossible, hence Hamilton running wide into Massa.

It was an excessively ambitious move by Hamilton, thats clear.
But Massa defended a tad too hard, and should've realized he was coming and left for margin for error there.

Is there a need for stewards? Seriously.

Not enough overtakings for my taste so I gave it a 7.

So that's what we call a racing incident, and no penalties for both drivers ! Why the FIA has to penalize everybody all the time. As said, the drivers will now try even less to overtake. I think GP2 is too extreme sometimes with the drivers not using their brain, but come on F1 is more mature than this and I think we don't need all those penalties. And usually the driver who is penalized with a DT has already suffered from his failed move.

Even though I'm not a fan of his, I went with Button, drove superbly

Massa didn't block him. Hamilton just had his sight on his lines which because of Massa in the distance it wasn't perfect so he gave up, he could of easily kept going and not lost time. It's a perfect example how F1 drivers are way to soft and complain too much.

Also Hamilton's interview was pretty sad. Sure it was probably a joke but it didn't need to be said. Now the media is going to play on that and make it even worse which is bad for F1 and Hamilton really.

Yeah, its what I never understand

Hamilton and Maldonado collide - 20s penalty
Kobayashi and Sutil collide - reprimand.
