I think to be fair to DC, he has realised that now was the time to retire.

Damon Hill realised that too yet was still criticised for seeing out the year instead of stopping immediately

TBH though stepping aside this late in the game helps no-one, just ask Villeneuve what coming into a team this late can do for your reputation...

I think Damon's problem was that he looked like he might stop after France, decided to do GB which actually went OK and then continued, after which the season was near enough a complete disaster where he retired from 2-3 races where he just gave up. This was at a time where his teammate was contesting for the championship.

Coulthard has been involved in far too many accidents this year and I don't if it's just "luck" or he's lost that vital 5%, but I don't think he has reached the embarassment that Hill was.

Thought it was fantastic. We had battles left right and centre, cars slipping and sliding all over the place and a field of driver who really earned their money.

9 from me, very entertaining.

I agree ryan. Hill's final season was a complete mess, he retired a perfectly healthy car from his last race - not a good way to go out.

Coulthard's average season in 2008 doesn't really compare to Hill's 1999.

While I'm agreeing with you both, Damon's final season was largely his own problem...Coulthard has been taking out a lot of other drivers this year so he's everyone else's problem! :p

Damon caused a flip in 1999!

Admittedly, it wasn't his fault, but still... :p

There were plenty of drivers around. Webber was around, for a start, but he'd already criticised Lewis

Webber would be getting beaten as badly as Heikki.

Bull. Webber's consistently been one of the best drivers this season

Vettel's still going to mop the floor with him next season.

imo

Webber has been great in qualifying and then complete shit in the race

That's because of a combination of shit strategies and a shit engine in the second half of the season. But in the first half he was consistently in the points. He won't be a pushover for Vettel - he's pretty much beaten every team mate he's had except Heidfeld, and that was pretty much even stevens

Vettel is a better talent than Webber (at least from what we have seen and how he has grown in the sport) but I think it will be very close next season.

It will be good to have two consistent drivers in the team as well and not one driver doing 90% of the work trying to almost single handedly beat the likes of Toyota and Renault in the championship.

I'm not convinced Vettel is better than MW.
Webber got stuck behind Kubica/Alonso when he was closing on Kovalainen in the first stint, and of course he and Kovi lost 10-15sec in the spray.
Next year will tell anyway, so I guess we don't have to argue for long.

"Fucking how do I not use seven shades of shitty swearwords in every fucking sentence?" :p

The FOM coverage at least improved from last race at Spa, doesn't deserve a 10 at all, but a good job nonethless. ITV cutting to commercial break after merely 4 laps of racing was my major complaint.

Contrary to popular belief, the race wasnt that great. Only person seriously racing was Lewis (who fell off at the end). If we had've swapped Seb for someone else, everyone would be voting 3-4's. Dont take anything away, it was a great win for the boy, but the race wasnt much.

This is my view too.

he held off Kimi and Lewis for a bit. :whistling:

He crashed. He was the only driver in the whole race to crash out.

yeah but Coulthard took out Fisi's front wing. :eyecrazy:

Fisichella running into the back of Coulthard = Coulthard taking out Fisichella's front wing? :eyecrazy:

Vettel's gonna be like 'whoa, why weren't you gettin' podiums in this shit' and then Mark's going to be all like 'fuckin' kids think they're all hot shit' and then they're going to be best friends.

8/10. It was a great race with lots of overtaking and incidents. Not too much up the front as Vettel was simply TOO GOOD.

Astonishing drive by Vettel, to be that far ahead in changing conditions is a true sign of talent. Only one DNF too, so nobody will look at this result in 20 years and say it was luck, or due to attrition.

What on earth was the Ham playing at? Pretty awful driving pushing Glock off the road then driving sideways into Webber.

On the plus side, Massa managed to pick up a point, in the wet at that (and we all know how woeful he is on a wet track, after Silverstone). It could have been better with Hamilton starting 15th, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse the way it played out.

I think Kimi has had it for this year unfortunately - it's just not working out for him. Spa more or less summed up his misfortune, and this a fairly lethargic effort by him. At least it makes Ferrari's decision for them - they have to back Massa now, without question, if they want to win the title.
