The opinion in press and pundit circles seems to be that Ferrari might be serious this time. They aren't the small-time business that Enzo ran alongside his racing team, even compared to 10 or so years ago. Given that they haven't been on top of F1 for a decade now, how much would the car business suffer if they left? Not much.

And one has not commented? Brilliant work, FIA!

I like blaming the FIA for lots of things, but this is entirely on Liberty. Their blue-sky thinking has gotten them exactly as far as I thought it would.

You mean bringing millions of new viewers to the sport via engaging with social media instead of the closed shop tactics the last dinosaur in charge with his "right crowd and no crowding" elitist policies that may have worked in the 70s/80s but were threatening to see the sport fall behind Indycar and Formula E in being a series fit for the modern world?

The Manufacturers throw their dummies out of the pram literally every time there is a considerable rules change.
Some of them even leave, but they're usually replaced by those who find the new rules attractive
So far, so samey.

As for Ferrari, unless they actually left the sport, no-one will believe they ever intend to leave the sport.
A lot of their marketing prestige is based on them being an active Formula 1 team and I don't see them wanting to risk that.

They've gone through a lot worse, on track competitiveness wise, than a relatively narrow 2nd place too and it hasn't affected their commitment to the sport.

If you think that people watching a clip on Twitter or a feature on Youtube count as new viewers, then great, but those people aren't spending any money to do that, which means they aren't improving anyone's bottom line.

We'll see how many of them sign up for the paid-for streaming service. That will be the proof.

And yes, you can set your watch by Ferrari's cycle of threats to quit F1 but unless I am forgetting something this is the first time they have threatened to quit over a specific proposed rule change or set of rule changes. Before it was simply about squeezing more money out of FOM.

Ferrari leave and Formula 1 is Championship without the biggest fan draw and Liberty knows that. They'll cave or they'll have spent $8 billion dollars for a series no one will watch.

the least FCA could do is take Ferrari away and replace with Alfa Corse, a real italian racing team

I don't know, it just gets annoying and old. As someone wrote, it's that time of the year again when Ferrari threatens with it. I'd still gladly watch F1 without the reds, maybe even more enthusiastically.

I wholeheartedly support Christina Horner who demanded proper V12s. F1 doesn't need the eco shit the FIA is so adamant on. Now that FE slowly gets off the ground, the eco-tarts in the FIA should move over to that project and let us be.

Apparently Williams hadn't been informed about his decision before his tweet, so it seems it was his own decision.

“Own decision” because Williams was already looking to replace him anyway

I just hope it's the last time now :) It'll be interesting to see who's gonna get the seat. I'd personally hope that Kubica gets the chance.

don't forget Barrichello saying that he's got a lot to offer and could be a good choice for the Williams seat (if they pay a good money of course, racing craft and development aren't cheap)

Just saw a piece from some Dutch tv show on my FB feed about Kubica. Apparently, and i honestly did not know this, if Kubica will race in F1, he has to repay his insurance for whatever amount. And that Zanardi got around 40 milion (dollar/euro) when he got his accident.

With Robert Doornbos? I've watched it, too. That's the reason why Kubica rejected driving for Toro Rosso in Austin - he wants a normal 1 year contract. If something went wrong, he would have too much to lose.

This is the video:

The problem is that when you earn that much money, you can pay lawyers who can make stuff like that legal, but when 'we' would do it, then you have the IRS equivalent barging down your door in an instant, so to speak. Let's face it, we would do it as well, but we can't pay thousands of dollars for a lawyer to make it 'legal'.

The whole tax avoidance is legal but tax evasion is not. I know the difference, but in all practical intents and purposes, it's the same.
