Hopefully the engine really did seize up and it’s not because ricciardo forgot to put it in neutral

Max's average starting position over the past 4 races has been 8th.

His average finish is 1st.

Had all the marshals left the track before the point on the penultimate lap at which the SC would need to turn the lights off to signal a restart?

Because if they hadn't, there's nothing much race control could have done.

I think they were removing the Mclaren as the cars went past on lap 51 of 53. Pretty sure it was clear when they passed on the next lap. Whether the rest of the field had caught back up, I'm not sure.

Hmm. I can understand race control's reluctance to deviate from the rules considering recent history.

If Ricciardo forgot then the marshals should have been able to fix it themselves with the giant N.

Ricciardo suffered an oil leak.

I'm glad abu dhabi didn't end like this last year, that's exactly where that was going if Massi didn't hurry things up, glad he did and we had that grandstand finish. People complaining about that race must have loved the ending to this race as that's what they wanted last year.

Will be interesting to see if Max can win all remaining races, better get those out of the way this year. Early title win, so good opportunity to boost his all time stats now so we can have an exciting season again next year.

I'm surprised that Ferrari lost so much influence that they could had asked for the red or to rush to go back to green

also funny that some 20 years ago that situation meant only a local yellow, specially because is off racing line but again, is safety over anything right

It was the correct decision, unlike Abu Dhabi 2021. This race ending demonstrated how strange and convenient the race director's decisions were at the time. This ended up deciding the championship in favor of a driver chosen by Michael Masi, an idiot who shouldn't be in charge.

You serious? I will always consider Hamilton the moral champion, and was upset how Masi broke the rules just to have a "Netflix"-ending for the season. "The show" should never trump sporting rules.

I don't find SC endings stupid. They happen when they happen. It's not the first time, and it's not the last time.
What I didn't like is how slow and unprofessional they were today. With better job we would have had 1-3 laps of racing in the end.

This feels like every Indy 500 thread in the years when someone crashes within 5 or so laps to go and it ends under yellow lol

On the contrary, I feel both Abu Dhabi and today were the wrong decisions.

If their ultimate goal (after safely cleaning up an incident) is a grandstand finish under green flag, then the correct decision would've been for both races to be promptly red flagged as soon as it became obvious that recovering the stricken car wouldn't be completed within 1 lap. That would've given viewers a mini sprint race to the end and allowed all drivers equal footing on fresh tires.

Lol so why no fake crowd noises.......

FOM's sound crew seemed to be working overtime to edit out the Italian fans booing at the end  First when Brundle was interviewing Verstappen and then later when Verstappen started walking out onto the podium. Massive boos both times, only to suddenly disappear lol.

DRS and the same six cars in the top six again despite the jumbled grid, zzzzz.

They should have sent the tractor out to recover the McLaren as soon as the safety car was deployed, they might have had time for a restart then.

Good result for de Vries, that was about the only good thing that happened today.

MSC quietly continuing his improved run of form in the latter half of the season after an erratic start to the year. I believe this was now the 7th time he's finished ahead of MAG in the 10 races where they've both seen the chequered flag. With virtually zero running on Friday. Not too shabby.

FIA have explained why it ended under SC and not red flag, but failed to explain why the SC picked on the wrong cars and then took so long to correct it.

Anyway, if Verstappen outscores Leclerc by 14 points in Singapore, he is officially the 2022 champion.

For the first time under the turbo hybrid regulations, Hamilton is mathematically eliminated from the title fight before the final race.

If he doesn't win at Singapore is gonna be quite an impossible task to end this season with at least one victory

Next year I want more of a fight, but this year I won´t mind if Verstappen wins every remaining race, destroying as many records as possible.
