hanghai's F1 race contract runs until 2017, and Yang said the grand prix is just one of "a lot" of international events in the sprawling city every year.

As for whether the F1 deal will be extended, he insisted: "Changes have to be made to the sport.

"UBS was the title sponsor of last year's Chinese GP, but they didn't extend the contract this year, and there must be a reason for it.

"The races are not as brilliant as they were a decade ago," Yang added.

The racing the past few years has been indefinitely better than the racing a decade ago & I think the last couple Chinese Gp's have been great.

I don't get the fascination many seem to have with going back to the way F1 was 10 years ago as lets be honest from a racing standpoint F1 was mostly crap 10 years ago.

I wish F1 cars could be a bit heavier like those 80's turbocharged racers

1985 and 1986 were the peak of pure horsepower in F1, when Rosberg set the highest average speed down at Silverstone

I won't say anything about this year because I stopped watching F1(highly doubt it got any better, though), but the Chinese GP of 2004 was way better, imho, than the 2014 one.

I think that GP(2004 Chinese) was particularly much better than the average back then and the typical racing was indeed poor. However, it had other stuff which kept me interested in the sport. Now, almost all is gone. Cars were good looking back then(this year only Mercedes and Lotus are) and sounded agressive. The speed of the cars was exhilarating when watching(since 2014, the cornering speed of the cars, during qualifying, is the same of the Audi's R18 LMP1 during the race, and during the races, the F1s are much slower) and there was more variation on the pecking order as development(another thing that matters to me) was not restricted. Even on 2004, Williams, Mclaren and Renault won races on merit, so it wasn't just Ferrari domination. Battles/overtakes were very rare, which was very bad, but, when happened, they were thrilling because they were more genuine and now the fake racing does nothing to me. It surely provides a lot more "action" on the race but not the kind I'm looking for

Maybe I would still watch F1 if there wasn't other outstanding series out there to fill my need for motorsports. For instance, the 6h of Silverstone ticked all the boxes for me: fantastic genuine racing, good looking cars, variety of technical/engineering solutions(not even counting Nissan as they are not there yet), fast cars(LMP1s/2s) and unpredictability

But I guess there is some guy in China, named Yin, who thinks exactly the opposite of Mr Yang
