Human Rights Watch has reported that many people have been arbitrarily arrested in towns around the Bahrain F1 track, to avoid any protests like the previous years.

Nothing's changed with Bahrain apparently. But the Chinese GP being just 7 days before is rather tactful as it means focus is on this race rather than the next one.

I'd love to see if for myself. I'm sure tabloid media will dress F1's journey to Bahrain as a horrible thing though. Generally though fewer people seem to care because it's the third year of the F1/Bahrain saga.

Pretty stupid argument. Should people who don't like the look of the cars stop complaining and go to an art gallery instead?

Would these count or be considered a contradiction to the overall point?

I was trying to think how to word it, but you've done it for me. Yeah, it's an insane thing to say lol.

My point is that I won't enjoy F1 any less if the cars had stupid sounds.

Now I'm struggling to remember my theory, but if I can recall, turbulent air reacts very well to wings. I'd need to check a text book (for the nerds out there, correlate reynolds number vs. wing angles, and see which has a better lift or drag coefficient) to remind me of theory, but you would also get significantly greater downforce figures too. Meaning, insane corner speeds. See upwards of jet fighter g-forces mid corner if they used the turbulent flow off the wheels for downforce, rather than laminar flow. You wouldn't get any less drag either, get arguably similar drag values than what we have now (2009 > era wings). So no loss in top speed, but huge gains in corner speed.

Sorry to go all nerd, but I thought people might be interested by this.

Yay, nerd-conv
If the turbulence is predictable and steady, you're definitely right. Birds fly in a V-shaped formation to beneficiate from each other's vortices and gain drag/lift.
I read somewhere that it could be applied to planes to reduce lift-induced drag and save fuel, just like birds do to save energy over long distances.

This however is difficult to study unless in a steady state (constant speed, far from the ground,...). Wing designers always prefer a clean laminar flow ahead of the wing because turbulence is unpredictable (also the reason why planes have to wait a few minutes between takeoffs in an airport until the wake turbulence cools down).

I don't know how far the beneficial effect could be applied to a racing car, but if anyone is both talented and crazy enough to fool around with this, it's F1 engineers!!

fun, but some are impossible to guess.
My first question was "the very fast circuit located near the mountains". I can name a few...

You can skip and come later on with that question, when there are less options left.

Ditto, plus I did it on my phone which I had to look really closely for the answers!

Pirelli have very quietly changed the tyre compounds for Bahrain from Soft/Hard to Medium/Hard.

Also some talk that Bernie, Zak Brown & Chris Pook want to Buy the Long Beach Gp contract & make it an F1 race again.

I think possibly the worst thing about the Bahrain situation is that it's been going on for three years now, and the only time it comes into the news is mid-April when it might be relevant to a motor race ... I'm not blaming Formula One for this, it's a common media problem where something is big news right up until the next big news story at which point it drops like a stone. The situation in Syria continues as ever before but as it's in no imminent state of revolution - just a long and bloody civil war, we're just kept simmering along with the story occasionally unless you decide to follow it on something like Al Jazeera or something even less mainstream. Bahrain is the same, and again there are sometimes snippets on Al Jazeera but apart from that it only crops up again when we have a motor race when F1 and other journalists massively care for a fortnight and then move on to the next race.

Rant over, I'm off to buy my morning paper ... (That's clearly a joke ... nobody buys newspapers any more, I'll get the free one they hand out on the underground.)

I don't know how it is where you live, but in Paris the free underground newspapers are the worst thing ever. They're not as bad/racist/vulgar as a tabloid, but they're just mediocre.
Mediocrity and superficial, stereotypical thinking between two advertisings is what they offer society, slowly killing it and bringing the general information level down.
