Pretty bad calendar, too much races. This year was the perfect amount, 16 or 17 races. I'm sure there will be cancelations. How can they run a street race with no spectators? Doesn't make sense to build a track just for a TV race.

But those races this year were stacked into a shorter time frame so it has been actually worse in terms of frequency.

Wouldn't be surprised if in 10 years it is nearing 30 and all races run with a 2-day format.

Quality over quantity plz.

You clearly don't remember because in the early 00's we had races at tracks like, Magny Cours, Hungaroring, Indianapolis, Imola where boring as hell, each and every year, except when it rained.

23 races would be amazing...if the sport could be even remotely competitive.

too bad todays f1 far is away from being competitive.

but hey, 23 boring races at awful places today is better than anything from the past.

the blame was all on the cars

and today most of the blame is still on cars, a bunch of crap cars with daddy sponsors, with crap engines that must consume a certain amount of fuel and doesn't break down in fumes, making races more unpredictable

now cars are almost unbreakable (specially the #44), ugly, boring to watch and doing laps on car parks paid by dictators

Montreal in October is COLD ;)

Thanks for thinking I am that young but I was already watching in the early 90s.

True, but imagine: this season spread out with a raceweekend and then a free weekend would have been perfect.

Ben Edwards is stepping down from Channel 4 commentary at the end of this year, that's a shame, I've enjoyed him doing IndyCar and Touring Car and he was the best choice for F1.

Gutted :(

He never got the credit he deserved. They should've put him in when Murray retired, but ITV were too interested in promoting one of their own

The best commentator for a long time.

I feel like it's probably not a coincidence that it's come at the same time as those discussions about how ridiculously intense a 23-race calendar is

I guess Jack Nicholls and Alex Jacques will be the favourites to take over

We might finally have the chance to hear Edwards commentating on something good again. He's wasted on F1 in its current state.

Hope he joins John Watson to commentate GT Series, although I like David Addison as well.

Hybrids are going to stay for 2026, so for the 5 people who enjoy the product as it is, you will get more of it.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Great news - F1's staying at Interlagos until 2025 as the Sao Paulo GP: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/15346 ... until-2025

and the best part is that Liberty went back to ask if Globo is still interested in broadcasting the races in the next years on FTA tv

That Rio GP thing was too shady for the current standards of F1. I could see it happening if the same people were involved in it 20 years ago.

it was also perpretated by government officials that came to power stating that "the end of corruption is near" but making sure that it was going to be a huge corruption scheme

First members of the company who earned the right to build the track approached state governor and Rio mayor to claim that he also got the race. Those went to the president saying that would be "a victory over São Paulo", home of rival politicians who now secured the race in Interlagos

Then, they claimed the initiative would be 100% built using private funding, to gather public support, which still believes that in that way there wouldn't have any corruption.

Finally they came up with a project, doze the forest and start building just to claim that they don't have enough funding so they go the government asking for help, the public money faucet is happily opened and they started picking all the money they can

In the end, courts could rule the maintenance of the project or simply shut it down, like what happened in Brasilia, leaving a torned up construction site and scammers richer, with no racing on the future (plus the enviromental disaster)

Otherwise known as the "Donington Park 2009 manuever"

Though it helps if you have the blessing of Bernie who is pissed off at the track who he wants to take the date off so he'll help your scam

yeah quite like that, they got Chase Carey aka Mr Monopoly to back the scam, sent a letter to the governor asking to go through all the enviromental bureaucracy to build the track

perhaps that's what made him get fired from Liberty
