The test tyres were a harder compound that were more consistent over a stint & had a wider temperature operating window.

Hmm, good, I don't want to see them used, I have a feeling they would ruin the more exciting racing we're enjoying this year...

Was speaking to a Finnish journalist who said his colleagues just arrived about an hour ago.

It's a silly situation.

It's 2000 all over again

Readed somewhere that you can't bring a bike in. Don't know if it is true though.

Right then! I am going to stay at my 'rents tonight and then meet my bro tomorrow and we will get a train to Norhampton and by shuttlebus to the circuit. I will arrive around 10ish so hope it is not too late.

On Sunday, I will go in a Megabus coach (hopefully there wont be any vapour going around inside the coach...) straight to Silverstone.

It was my birthday yesterday and I fancy buying some RBR merchandise so where can I find the cheapest gear?

At a different forum, someone said that if you go to the main entrance (where?) and go over the footbridge and there is a small tented area. So there are the cheapest stuff sold there. So where is it then as the main entrance might have been changed due to the circuit changes?

Heh, I went to the race in 2000. We'd heard on the radio that there had been problems, so we didn't even bother driving near the circuit. A local farmer charged us about £5 to park in one of his barns, and we walked about 4 miles to the circuit from there, cutting through muddy cattle fields. 3 out of the 5 F1 races I've been to have had shocking weather.

I've actually enjoyed the practice sessions today. Obviously it would have been nicer to see more running, but every car was drifting around the corners and struggling to keep it in a straight line.

I have sympathy for all those at the circuit, except Phil. :p

All campsites closed to incoming spectators. What a cock-up.

Last time I went to Silverstone was in 2000. Lol.

I am hoping my CAT boots will hold up in the rain and mud. But I am sure it will be fun tho.

Only 535 miles out, but close enough. :p

Was it our commentator Oskari Saari by any chance?
He just tweeted:
Quote:
Missed both free practise sessions plus the interviews because of sitting 6 hrs in traffic.

Quote:
Don't know if I should sleep in the commentary box tonight to make sure we make it here nice and early tomorrow.

I suppose, though, you expect a certain level of competence in organisation from a grand prix venue.

Especially when this shit happened not 15 years ago and they seemingly haven't learnt a single lesson.

Has there been problems in the 11 races in between or is it only when a months worth of rain in 24 hours falls?

Camp site should be fun. Left it at 8am this morning, although hopefully the ground underneath the tent should be relatively dry; we're high up in the field.

Less optimistic about the chances of getting out on Sunday

Because of the mud or the traffic? Last year we waited about 2 hours after the race and made it back to Harrogate some time aorund 21:00 - 21:30 which wasn't too bad I thought.

Yeah, surely the Casual fans bugger off after the GP and you can sit watching Ellis favourite Historic racing while they struggle to get out.

Then wander around, try get a few late exclusives, talk to the stewards about the stupid penalties they hand out, snarfle any left over food thats going, steal a pit awning/team pit signal/HRT car or two (and a mic from Sky Sports obv) then gradually make your way out once it has all died down.

That's the only tactic we used to have with the BTCC at Donington (back in the day when the BTCC wasn't the last race of the day, anyway, and change all the stealing stuff for "buying merch cheap as they packed up their last few items and were desperate to make a sale")

The track is now telling people to stay away tomorrow.
