I don't understand why everyone goes on about Red Bull & Monza - there are several tricky perfect RB turns and their DRS is awesome

They have the weakest of the three engines. RB make up for that elsewhere.

I don't think they do though. They keep saying that but its just how they use it. It has great driveability out of the corners and which engine was amazing in a straight line at Abu Dhabi last year? Oh yeah, the Renault.

Weakest doesn't mean a huge difference in performance. The Renault is behind but not be too much like people seem to think.

The engine makes up for it's shortcomings elsewhere also though. It's significantly more fuel efficient than the Ferrari and Mercedes, it's torque and lower end is still friggin awesome, not quite Alonso/Trulli superstarts from 04-06 but pretty damn good, only team with better traction than RBR and Lotus Renault is MercedesGP

Great lap by Sebastien. Ridiculously good, shouldn't be a surprise as he is the best qualifier in the sport but he does it week in, week out. Wonder how Whitmarsh will explain this one away, whilst Lewis can chalk up yet another mistake in what has been far too many this season.

Still I expect the race to be close. The double DRS zones should allow Lewis and Jenson to have some fun, whilst Alonso will be trying to pick up anything. Webber to be P10 by the first chicane.

Being fast in a straight line doesn't neccesarily mean the engine is strong, it mainly means a car lacks downforce. The MercedesGP is a monster in a straight line, mainly because it's a pile of crap through the twisty stuff.

There is a reason it's usually the midfielders/tailenders who top the speed-traps. If you were to look at apex and corner speeds the Red Bull/Macca/Ferrari would no doubt dominate those comfortably. Swings and Roundabouts.

Something else to consider regarding Red Bull is that there car has good mechanical grip & also has a well optimised blown diffuser system so they are able to run less downforce while still having good grip in the turns & there DRS is very strong as well.

At Abu-Dhabi last year Renault were very fast in a straght line, However they had gambled on running less downforce & they also had an extremely effective F-Duct which was helping them with top end speed.


With top end speed its not just about engine power/performance (Although it helps), Its about how much drag the car produces & how much wing your running. GP2 cars have something like 150Bhp less than F1 engine's yet we saw this weekend that in top end speed there about the same (330Kph yesterday) & it all comes down to drag.

Buemi has a Ferrari engine in his STR-Ferrari car.
