At Fastlane recently we were discussing which wet races started under the SC, there are nine in total:

Spa 1997
Spa 2000
Brazil 2003
Fuji 2007
Korea 2010
Canada 2011
Japan 2014
Monaco 2016
Silverstone 2016

Monza 2008 and Shanghai 2009 also saw a Safety Car start.
The conditions at Spa 1997 were actually quite similar to Silverstone this year: a heavy downpour 20 minutes before the race start and then sunshine when the race got going under Safety Car.

Amazing how the stewards at Spa took the safe route for the 1997 race, only to say "fuck it, let'em race" the very next year where SC needed to be deployed.

With the magic of YouTube I kinda answered my own question. Malaysia 2012 and 2013 were damp starts, but not what I would necessarily call a wet start, but inters were used so yes can say they were wet starts.

best race start ever, I still remember that as one of top 5 races in history

Coulthard farce of the race IMO

Well, 1997 was Charlie's first year as a race director and it was his first wet start. He basically invented the whole SC start tradition that year. However, AFAIK, he got complaints about the 1997 start. So maybe due to peer-pressure Charlie went to have a normal start for Spa 1998. After the chaos, I guess he said "I told you so", and ever since his aquaphobia has gotten worse.
But since fear of wet racing has become a pandemia among the current driver generation, I don't think anything will change even after a new race director.

Friday will see sunny and dry conditions with some light cloud to develop throughout the middle of the day. Hence, both training sessions are expected to remain dry.
Maximum daytime temperatures of 28 to 30 degrees.

On Saturday, the risk for some showers and thunderstorms will increase. However, most of the day is expected to stay dry, sunny and hot.
Weak southerly winds with maximum temperatures between 29 to 31 degrees.

Sunday will bring rather unsteady weather conditions with an enhanced risk of showers and thunderstorms from mid-morning.
However, there are big uncertainties regarding the weather on Sunday, hence the risk of shower activity affecting the race cannot be ruled out.
Outside of shower activity, weak winds and partly cloudy conditions are expected with temperatures reaching 30 degrees.

I remember 4 great races at Hungaroring 1989, 1997, 2006 and 2014. Yes there were some other outstanding individual performances, like Schumi in 1998, Alonso in 2003 and Vettel in 2015 but they weren't memorable races. I know it's about individual perspective, but I don't get why some of you think this place produces many great races. As it hasn't.

1990 was pretty good. There were about six cars in contention for the win, but Senna punted off Nannini, and Berger drove into Mansell. Boutsen just about held off Senna for a rare win.

I feel the track has really been ruined by tarmac, though. Randomly, the only corner with gravel is one of the fastest on the circuit, which makes no sense.

Yay! My 2nd Grand Prix weekend only two days from know! 8)

Hopefully this flu goes away before that, otherwise the heat will probably melt my face off by Sunday's storm.

Oh hell, what ever, it's still going to be legendary! 8)

You can cancel this, no rain.

Just look at the 1999 track. Not a single tarmac run off area.

By 2001 they had laid tarmac on turn 5. 2002 saw turn 11 and 14 with tarmac. Then in 2003 turns 1, 2, 12 and 13 were sanitized. And later gravel was replaced from turns 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9. Whose brilliant streak of ideas was this? What was wrong with the 1999 layout?

they actually added tarmac at turn 14 in 2000, which makes it the first f1 track to have tarmac run off.

kinda miss the old turn 12...

Both Brands (Paddock) and Silverstone (Club & Stowe) had tarmac runoffs as far back as the 60's and 70's, it's not a new thing. It didn't work back then either which is why they covered them in catchfencing at the time.

Just saw Alonso's first lap at Hungary '06 again, which was awesome, and noticed they didn't need a safety car for that start either.

I know Ayrton Senna in Donington 93 is considered one of the all time great wet drives, but have to say, I just watched Hungary 06 again and I actually rate Alonso's drive even better. He just humiliated everyone and was on another planet that day. I'm struggling to recall another drive when someone was as one with the car as him that day. Was simply mesmerizing and only let down by his team.
