Probably a dumb question, but how is raindrops on a canopy like that RB one any different than raindrops on a helmet visor? Whatever teams are doing currently to deal with rain is probably what they'll do with a canopy like this. It's not like they're using tear offs or wiping it off with their hands every 10 seconds or something.

Or how about teams are allowed to remove the windscreen when it rains? Just leaving the cage on the car. Still would block big objects and visibility would be as before.

it looks less silly than the effort from Ferrari, but it still looks silly.

Most the comments stating how good it looks are just resignation, and come from "it could be worse" or "better-looking than the halo" territory.

It still looks weird as fuck.

Did they have an onboard of it?

Looks like the wheel still hits the top of the helmet?

Glancing blow, doubt it would cause any harm to the driver.

Even if it slightly touched the helmet ( which I'm not sure it did ) it still way more protection then is available now.

Where we could go in future, any thoughts?

Red Bull racing car from Gran Turismo:

Car from Speed Challenge: Jacques Villeneuve's Racing Vision (2002 game) - this game went further by having drivers remotely driving vars via VR!

GPX Formula Japanese manga car (bit too far fetched methinks, it can reshape into various forms!):

A wheel may bounce off the side of a car, injuring spectators, it might bounce off the roll hoop of a car, injuring spectators, etc etc. If it bounces off the canopy it has already saved a driver, so who gives a fuck where it goes next?

How is that better if it bounces off after having already killed a driver? That's what happened in the Wilson and Surtees fatal accidents. The difference is that the driver was dead already. What about the stray wheel bouncing off a wheel?

Your arguments only work if you consider that the helmet/skull deformation absorbs more energy than a canopy, and would make the bounce less high/fast than if it hit a harder part of the car, but that is a terrible way of looking at things.

EDIT: sorry Reece I misread your comment, thought you meant the opposite, but I'll keep my reply because it's funny to imagine how desperately misunderstood and aggressed it will feel to you and other readers, before coming to the EDIT part.

Thanks for linkin the Tire test here.
Thats what I said before... This will not help at all. Thats why I'm against the HALO thing.
If shit wants to happen, it just happens I mean it got to be bad luck in the mix too.
Racing is still dangerous and 100% is a thing that is unrealistic

Ricciardo was wearing some sort of glasses camera when he did the lap with the canopy.
