This is obvious for Rush 2:

Michael Schumacher vs. Mika Häkkinen

- they collided in junior formulas already (F3 Macau)
- both entered F1 nearly at the same time in midfield teams
- both got the speed to climb up to the top
- 1994 roller-coaster season
- both had serious accidents but recovered (Mika 1995, Schumi 1999)
- 1996 craziness
- 1997, the promise of better
- 1998, the clash of the titans
- 1998 Suzuka, the handshake, the race, the drama, the triumph
- 1999 - 2000, switch of the power balance, dawn of Michael's era
- Mika quits, Michael dominates

That's where you can go for the end montage, like in the Rush final scenes of mix between staged acting and real footage.

the end of this could be very dramatic and sad aswell

Indeed. I almost wrote it in the first post, but didn't want to sound too sentimental. But for many the whole legend of Michael vs. Mika would definitely be movie worthy, even with different ending.

I think 2007 would be great as a movie. the tensions in mclaren during that season would make for a very interesting story in between races: the spy scandal, a fast rookie and his experienced teammate that tried dirty tricks to gain the upper hand. And it had a surprising finale with Raikkonen stealing the title away from Mclaren.

It's got to be a season that has a fantastic climax on track and has a lot of drama outside of the race track to make the movie interesting. If it's just recaps of races you can better watch the season review. We need to see the stuff that wasn't captured on camera, for 2007 that would be how the Spy scandal unfolded and how it cost Mclaren the driver title eventually.

Broadening it out a bit.

I think the origin story of Bernie And Max would be fascinating. Son of a fascist and a Mitford sister (Hello, Andrew Collings) vs a used car dealer.
Coming into the confusing, amatuer sport in the 70s, being the rebels uniting the teams against the officials in the 80s and running the show in the 90s onward.
Maybe they're waiting a year or two to see how the Bernie legacy ends before going for it?

An Ecclestone biopic down the road (aka a while after he's kicked the bucket) might actually be something, yes. Potential for inspirational moments, hard business moments and totally hilarious moments.

And it's not like he's not been affected by the human and tragic side of the sport over the years either.

A Senna Prost movie has already been done. It was called Senna. ;)

There'll probably be some terrible inspirational movie about Lewis at some point, fictionalised about how the first black driver had to face adversity and racism to reach the top of a white man's world.

Gotta be 1982..
That was so dramatic from start to finish

You mean the documentary? That`s an documentary, not a glamorous hollywood movie.

If you're looking for another racing film with a long backstory, why not go outside F1 and go to the 1987 Indy 500?

Staying in F1, 1988-1990 would be great but done as a drama, not as a documentary.

Definitely a Gilles Villeneuve vs everyone. you got all it takes: great caracter, best looking cars, a man with the balls bigger than the brain, epic story, drama moments, Pironi betraial, sad ending. Everything.

You've misunderstood the point I was trying to make. Regardless of the type of movie that was produced, "Senna" focused a large proportion of the production on the Senna and Prost relationship / dynamic. So it has been done.

The whole 2007 season would probably make a good film. The on-track action plus the off-track saga.

Stopping the race for the rain just before Senna got to the French rival, giving Prost the win with half points, if they had gone the distance and he finished second, he would have scored an extra point and a half and secured the world title by one, ironically... against Lauda. :D
http://www.formula1.com/results/driver/1984/

One fact that adds up to the controversy is that the race director was French as well, this always fueled up conspiracy theories that he did this on purpose to secure the win for his fellow countryman. It gets even more dramatic as you see the image of Prost just parking in front of the director who was waving the red flag, like he was in despair, like a coward, while Senna flashes by the straight overtaking him in the most brilliant form. I can only smile every time I think how this backfired him.

Wasn't the race director Jacky Ickx, a Belgian, with no interest in letting a Frenchman win?

I'm thinking 2008 might be a little better, but both would work. And 2009 for Brawn

Not sure who they'd get to play Kimi, though

'94 and '08 would make for good stories, but then anything with Mansell in it would contain the required amount of drama too.

Rush 2: Tache and Burn

The story of a plucky Brummie, his moustache, and the dangers of modern motorsport. Thrill at his explosive career!

* His BRUSH WITH DEATH after pushing an F1 car in a hot country
* His BRUSH WITH DEATH after a commentator pokes a bump on his head
* His BRUSH WITH DEATH after cutting his finger on a sharp trophy
* His BRUSH WITH DEATH after not quite fitting in his car

Bonus features (coming to Blu-Ray):

* His touring car BRUSH WITH DEATH (The part of DEATH is played by Tiff Needell)

Seriously, anything involving Mansell can be made dramatic.

Still the best idea in this thread.

How come nobody has mentioned 1986? 1986 is simply perfect for a Rush sequel, it joins drama, comedy, thriller and action altogether in the same season/movie.
