Not really starting off well for Fernando. Same problem twice now.

Always nice to see lot's of gravel traps. Even Spa looks barren nowadays.

Decent kerbs as well ... most of the ones on the inside of corners can't be climbed all over (the chicane but within limits, and some in the new section) and the exit ones have a little slope that generally prevents excessive use.

Was watching Massa's OnBoard during FP1 & the car looks horrible. Loads of Mid-corner understeer followed by a shift to big oversteer on the exit.

While FOM were showing the session highlights, They showed this shot of a rear tyre:

Not sure if the white bits are small cuts or maybe some paint from a kurb or something?

Ted K pointing out, not only are the teams swapping the rear tyres, they (McLaren in this instance) were actually covering Pirellis own markings and putting there own on to hide when they'd done it.

Was this happening before or after the FIA banned tyre swapping?

Before. Now the FIA have a steward (I missed his name) who is policing the pit lane. He has the ability to check any of the teams at any time. He's allowed to check the tyre rotation direction (which is obviously what the FIA are now stopping with the no-swapping rule), the tyre pressures and the camber.

Minimum tyre pressure this week is 16 PSI, and it is enforced this time, not just a recommendation. Minimum camber is negative 4 deg, also enforced. These are based on Pirellis recommendations.

Seems as though the Red Bull is on Mercedes' pace this session.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Related to the debate that Matt and I had regarding booing and cheering, Crofty and Ted K discussing it now. Crofty saying it's understandable, Ted saying it was disappointing. Basically the same debate Matt and I had.

Its not often I get to see free practise but everytime I do I enjoy Brundle's trackside bits out and about on the circuit commenting on drivers' different approaches to corners. A bit like Mark Hughes does in Autosport.

The man doing the checks in the pit lane is Jo Bauer, the usual Technical Delegate.
