Reminding all that even though F1 starts on Friday, we have 2h 15min of track action today already. Risk of thunder pretty high today, and for Sunday both ECMWF and GFS models show some chance of rain. But whether it will affect the race remains to be seen. Last year the rain was more of an annoyance than a helper in terms of entertainment.

FIA is to implement some sort of Code 60 this weekend during the VSC and SC periods, but I can't really decipher the details. They're still talking about delta times and not specific km/h limit. So I don't know how much things are changing.

But since this will be the first Monaco race for Wittich as a Race Director, I reckon we won't see many VSC periods even though Monaco marshals could easily work under VSC especially if Code 60 is in use. But knowing Wittich, he will probably trigger red flag for any crash or stopped car.

Monaco is the worst place for a code 60, with the shortness of the track and the tendancy for the crazy marshals to jump on track without warning or checking if it's safe. (still amazed we didn't gouranga a few after Fishichella flipped in 04, they were all over the show)

Better wait for somewhere like Spa to test it out, but then an F1 race with no threat of a SC is really gonna make strategy boring as no-one will be holding out for a late SC to change tyres so everyone will change tyres at the same time and strategy won't diverge.

Code 60s make the racing safer but way, way more boring imo.

Just like every improvement on safety they made in the last 30 years.

The safer they have made everything, the more boring it has become. But it's not like they can undo safety measures because the fans want more action.

If you have access, watch the F3 Practice from yesterday for some wet track action.

Why do cars go slowly in the tunnel

They’re literally standing still on the track. The big one is nearing I fear

At least top speeds here are lower than in Jeddah. If they crash at Rascasse, it's not a biggie.

Wouldn't take much to recreate Daly's crash out of the tunnel.

That's the safest outcome, albeit spectacular. More worrying is a Billy Monger kind of deal. Since the Halo appeared, we haven't seen many head injuries, almost every serious single-seater crash was related to nose or cockpit penetration when the collision aligns just perfectly. I believe that's the most likely way to die nowadays in FIA single seater series
