McLaren forgot to order tires for Suzuka, so they were given 4 sets of medium, 5 sets of soft and 4 sets of supersoft. Other drivers have one or two sets of medium and a lot more supersofts.

Should have given them no tires. Make them drive around on just the rims. That'll teach them to not set a reminder on their phone calendar.

They've pretty much given up on this season any way.

Perhaps somebody responsible for ordering the tyres had been 'rewarded' in this way :whistling:

Yeah about time the FIA stepped in and stopped this before someone gets seriously hurt, I mean it's not like Lewis himself hasn't had a guest of honour at several races this year wheeling himself around the paddock in his wheelchair to remind them of what could happen when you hit a stationary car, and it's not like there wasn't another near miss months ago...

They make such a big deal over "delta timing" during VSC and all that, so just reverse it, a minimum speed that must be maintained at all times, even NASCAR has this rule, and we all know how the FIA looks down on them for being a bunch of inbred rednecks who couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery.

I've just seen this. Bloody hell, it is high time the FIA get their head out of their arse. That was probably the most dangerous one of the lot. He parked the car right on the 50 meter turn in board on the line to the chicane. If ever there was a case of starting from the back and 3 points on your licence this was it.

I am all for trying to keep penalties out of F1, but that is as slam dunk case of someone deserving a harsh penalty for downright dangerous driving. He was even looking in his mirrors....and chose to park right on the line for the fastest entry to a corner on the track.

The fix is simple. If your on a slow lap you have to stay off the racing line until you get to the final corner & plan to get on the throttle.

Another fix would be to give them tyres that don't need to be nursed quite as much on the out lap.

Other drivers have more than just one or two sets of medium and soft, except Ferraris and Sirotkin.

Which brings us to an interesting situation.

Due to two typhoons in last few weeks, Suzuka's track surface is fresher than what Ferrari expected when they picked the tires 14 weeks ago (deadline for overseas races) in last June. For some reason Ferrari decided to play it very aggressively, especially when you compare to Merc and Red Bull. Ferrari had bad long run simulations, they had to end them prematurely because tires were done. Their pace was not good as it's not on qualifying runs either.

Ferrari is likely to have two stops during the race, so if Red Bull can extend their tires life cycle and go for a one stopper, we might see a podium without Italian team colors.

This could be easy 1-2 for Mercedes, Lewis taking 25 points and Vettel something between 12 and 10 points, meaning that the championships are pretty much sealed.

Lots of ifs here of course, Ferrari could still make it even worse with their strategies, Vettel might lose his cool and crash early, Red Bulls might retire and Hamilton could have technical issues. It might also rain, which could be the saving grace for Ferrari for their tire gamble. Lots of interesting things to expect from this weekend starting from qualifying strategies, while on track actions might not be that interesting.

Suzuka qualifying always delivers.

Ferrari can't get their shit together. I bet Kimi is happy to leave and Leclerc might be getting a bit less excited now.

Good qualy for Toro Rosso, looks like their Honda upgrade worked, meanwhile McLaren at the back
