Or that Hakkinen won in Suzuka because Schumacher didn't want to attack him.

Irvine was still a championship contender in the last race due to luck and the help of Schumacher and even Salo. He never deserved the title and I'm glad he didn't win it.

The Silverstone layout is good, it just lost a lot of its character with all the FIA Grade I bullshit and the bland white/red curbs (or are they black?). Now it looks like any modern track that could be anywhere in the world. This goes for other classics too; Monza, Spa...

What about that whole cool fuel thing, I think in 2007 that put Kimi's title at risk? He kinda won it twice that year

#Finnspiracy

At risk yes but he was never given the title, had it taken away only to win it once more at a later race.

But now there is all this talk over Bottas' miraculous start at last weekend's GP. So maybe there is a #Finnspiracy afterall.

That "too cool fuel for F1" thing was ridiculous. FIA didn't have standardized measuring or storaging rules at the time and Williams fuel was only marginally under the limit, giving actually no performance advantage, especially when Rosberg finished well behind the car in front and ahead of the car behind of him, same thing with pitting. Then Dennis filed a complain on FIAs verdict, which was overruled because wrong team (not Williams) did it. What a fucked up way to decide the title that would have been, in favor of a disqualified team due spygate, had Rosberg been disqualified.

what do you mean with "winning the drivers title twice in the same season"? I can't remember Häkkinen being disqualified or anything like that in 1998. :o

I assume he was referring to Malaysia '99.

Reminds me of "Could you please stop laughing?". Or was that a few years later?

I'm referring to Sepang 99 as @

Mika Kimi
mentioned. Irvine won, then got disqualified for the barge board measuring thingy, thus confirming Mika as Champion. Ferrari appealed, were reinstated and then Mika won the title again at Suzuka.

That was Monza 2003 in reference to the tyre debacle post Hungary.

Ah, of course, that's obvious now.

Then again...the conclusion is he did and did not win the drivers title twice in 1999, since Ferrari barge boards were illeagal and then legal. FIA magic.

Mainly yes

If Irvine became Champion in 1999 it would've been a disgrace on many levels, fortunately he was seemingly a second a lap slower than MSC and Hakkinen in front of him, and that was that
(though G-rate driver Coulthard spun on his own and lost Mclaren the constructers championship they still haven't won again....well done DC)

And of all the places, Coulthard managed to put his car in to the wall in that corner after hairpin and before Spoon, the right hand sweep that doesn't even have a name.

On the video Keke Rosberg says "basically Coulthard lost it on a straight" says it all. But 2000 was going to be David's year so that wasn't so bad.

At the moment the weather is looking unsettled for both Saturday and Sunday.

The week hasn't been the heatwave of last week and we had torrential rain for around 18 hours Monday to Tuesday I think.

There could be a wet-to-dry qualifying session which may at least topsy-turvy the grid a bit.

What the hell are they thinking? Knotted together wheel tethers in inspection and when told to replace them, they REFUSE? Now the car is not allowed to race until its fixed. Are they playing games with Sainz because of his comments?

Nope

I will not have any truck with rain posts until there are drops falling over the track

I will report all posts debating rain possibility and request bans

Which would be utterly barmy to do. Risk severe penalties just to play mindgames with a driver over comments they made?
