and the session is even easier and more opened up now which, btw, means we can't compare the lap times with the record ones of 2006(1.13.5) because those were done on a tighter track.

Well, it's pretty much pointless to compare lap times across different years, on street circuits, anyway, because the tarmac conditions varies way too much on such circuits(as is the case again this year with Monaco being repaved which will likely allow for faster times)

Unless the director has been changed, expect to see many phantom yellows and phantom red flags again this weekend.

Stroll, Palmer & Massa haven't still crashed, and both Hondas are still running. :8:

Should have played GP4 instead of F1 2000 by EA Sports. :p

Did he actually said that in a serious way? He really wants that Maldonado job for next when Palmer is finally gone.

I think some of the criticism Stroll gets is a bit harsh, The part where he seems to be labeled as erratic/regular crasher for example.

It would be fair to say that he hasn't been great so far in terms of speed (Although he has shown flashes of good speed) but he's not exactly been throwing it off the track and/or into barriers/other cars that often. He's actually been pretty clean in that regard in both F1 this year & F3 last year where he really didn't make many errors at all that I can recall.

He's young, He's probably not totally ready for F1 but he's here & I really believe that he does have talent & that he is good enough for F1.... He just needs to get his head down & rebuild his confidence which has clearly taken a hit.

Also not as if drivers with a lot more experience haven't made the same mistake that he made today.

You do realize he made a billion testing kilometers that no other rookie since Villeneuve ever could dream of? He is genuinely the best prepared rookie since Villeneuve.

Stroll seems like a fish out of the water. He is throwing and yanking that steering wheel like he is riding a wild donkey. Bad spatial awareness and so incredibly slow relative to Massa. At the moment, the only quality he brings is dollars, excuse me, canadian dollars.

the team say that he's been braking too late than average and that's not a good thing

if he survives the first corner it'll be a victory for him

That was quite an impolite and unfriendly post. No need to attack Stef just because he doesn't jump on the bandwagon of bashing Stroll. But the fact is, you're mistaken. Stroll might have tested extensively but that was with and old F1 that has very little to do with the current cars which are much faster around corners than the 2014-2016 ones. Also, Pirelli cannot provide the official tyres for such private tests, so he did so using tyres that might be completely different to what they're using this year.

Back in 2006 and 2007, before their debut, drivers like Rosberg and Hamilton had, literally, tens of thousands of kilometers on the up-to-date F1 cars using the "real" tyres that Bridgestone and Michelin(this one when Lewis tested the MP4-21, on mid 2006) supplied in the GP's weekends(IIRC, in the year of 2006, F1s did a record of testing miles). The rookies back then had all the preparation in the world to adapt to F1 and is nothing compared to the very limited testing that $troll had.

Verstappen also had almost no testings(if any at all) when he debuted on a Suzuka FP, but then, Max is an extraordinary driver/talent and you can't compare anybody on the grid(or on the world now) with him. Ocon seemed like a great talent on F3 but even after doing GP3, he also struggled to keep up with the DTM boy, something that even Ryo Haryanto didn't.

With all that said. I think Stroll has been the biggest joke on F1 since....... I don't even know exactly. Maybe even Ide wasn't this slow

Uh, it sounds like you're just making excuses for Stroll. If he was ever worth ANYTHING, it wouldn't matter if it was a 2014-2016 spec car or not. We don't expect greatness, especially considering he is so young but we do expect some level of competency, which he seems to lack. Of course, some of the incidents he's been involved in so far weren't really his fault like when Sainz took him out, but that doesn't forgive his lack of pace compared to average Felipe Massa.

Oh, you got me. I'll admit that I'm a massive Stroll fanboy and here's the proof:

Some might argue that those "excuses" can otherwise be seen as facts(in relation to what was said about Stroll having the most testings since Villeneuve, which was incorrect in terms of proper testings with the actual car he was gonna race with) and, with those, one makes whatever he wants of it. I made my position clear but even like that someone got butthurt/insulted(which confirms what was said on the other thread)

Give him one more year. Not every one is a Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen and can come into their rookie year and be the next greatest thing. If he is beyond mediocre in his second year like Palmer is then yes we can criticize away. What he needs to show this year is constant improvement.
