BTW, reading that Renault hired Prost as an advisor. Surely not on how to run a F1 team

I really don't see how these cars are any better than previous seasons.

That kind of image would take full day to download, so you would really want to waste your time/connection on that.

In reality it would be like this:

"Oh look! McLaren is going to have another white/red Marlboro livery. Why can't they use something more exciting like chrome and black?"
Image

The RS17 looks ok. Last year livery was better though...

at first i thought the sauber and renault both had upward sloping sharkfins, but then realized its just the overall rake of the car

In 1989 a car launch would be covered with a single black and white photo in the following weeks Autosport. And being a Tuesday launch would mean waiting 9 days.

Indeed, and it was also very rare for pictures to be included in the follow day's Dailymail or The Sun.

I've never seen the point of watching these launches live. A few pics after the event is good enough for me

Sitting around to watch a sheet being taken off a car and then have drivers answer pretty much every question with "We don't know yet, the car hasn't turned a wheel. We're hoping to win, but we probably won't, but I'll surely be giving my every effort because I'm a superhuman driver who wrings every last drop of my talent out over the course of every race"

I don't think Sirotkin has that much money. We've been hearing about him for years now and still he hasn't found a ride. Surely, if he has the backers, one of the lower end teams would have picked him up by now. Even Marussia never took him on.

I wonder how long Renault will continue in F1. Spending a lot of money, but virtually no tv exposure as they have been somewhat in the middle of the pack in recent years. And the engines they provide for Red Bull have been re-branded.

If they quit this time around I expect them to quit completely. Hopefully the new owners do the right things and prevent a Renault exit and help teams like Sauber
Has F1's future been in so much limbo before? Sauber's situation still looks bleak, Renault iffy, The personal problems of Malya surely will catch up with the team one day. No new engine manufactures looking to enter. No new teams. No one willing to buy a team

I will be the devil's advocate here, and just say that since refuelling was banned (which got the cars longer and repositioned the roll hoop more towards the center rather than the rear), fins look slightly less bad. They used to look like hunchbacks back then:

Someone has suggested that it would look better with some blue on it. And it does! 8O

Image

With or without fin, that blue would be pure win.

Yeah, of course it's a Mild Seven color so why would they bother? Perhaps because the last time they won a title it was with that blue. Over a decade ago.
