Gary Anderson reckons Mercedes are way out in front. McLaren, Force India, Ferrari and Williams make up the chasing pack. Red Bull are ahead only of Caterham and Marussia

Quote:
I believe that the works Mercedes team and engine group are working as one and they have a substantial advantage when it comes to maximising the efficiency of the new-for-2014 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 powertrain.

Yes, the others will close that gap as they learn more about optimising the powertrain performance but there are only four more days of testing before Friday practice for the Australian Grand Prix and Mercedes appears to have a rather large head start.

If reliability is on its side, Mercedes could run away with quite a few of the early races.

This year was always going to be dominated by one team. New rules always tend to lead to that.

I can imagine the fight between Hamilton and Rosberg being quite close. Should be exciting to see how it pans out

Smedley to Williams. I was expecting him to take a more senior position at Ferrari but guess Williams made a better offer

It's long been expected that Smedley would return to Williams so the announcement comes as no surprise. He'll be good for the team.

according to McLaren's twitter they'll be sending a MP4-4 to Imola to remember 20 years without Senna. they'll just show it there or someone will drive? (looks likes Lewis had his chance 4 years ago :p )

any truth to Mercedes bringing a Lotus-style nose to Bahrain?

Don't know if this is what you meant but Lewis has driven the MP4/4 before, on Silverstone somewhere around 2010 I believe.

AMUS's Michael Schimdt says teams are running all types of noses on their's wind tunnels and that we indeed can see people introducing new noses, specially Lotus-like, but no special mention if it would be Mercedes afair

Anyway:
Quote:
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer Andrew Benson
"Ferrari's form has been difficult to read so far. They have periodically popped up at the top of the times. And a race run done by Fernando Alonso at the first Bahrain test looked reasonably competitive compared to a simultaneous one by Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg, as far as it was possible to tell. But a senior Ferrari figure revealed this week that the team believe their engine is about 75bhp down on the Mercedes, and they don't understand how their rivals are getting so much power while staying within the fuel restriction introduced this year. Which does not paint too pretty a picture for Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.

Oh dear...

Damn, if that's true they're screwed. They will be sitting ducks.

doesn't surprise me with Raikkonen's luck. Another jinxed year it is then.
