Let's be honest. For most of the 21st century McLaren has made things that 'mostly' worked...

Are the teams protesting that such a key component is made by one competitor for the whole grid?

And what control systems does the FIA have to ensure equity? Random pick out in front of official witnesses?

Well perhaps Red Bull should perhaps look inside the box as it is not the first time athey have issues with a third party developed component that's used without issue by other teams on the grid... I vaguely remember that last year they kept on having alternator issues but blamed the manufacturer and Renault.

or maybe McLaren rigged the ECU on purpose, or Red Bull failed to modify the stuff and that happened

This component is not developed and distributed by the McLaren race team but instead by McLaren Electronic Systems, which is a wholly separate company. The FIA managed the tender process as well as everything else to do with the FIA mandated ECU. ;)

And if they did want to balls up another driver, they'd go for the other Red Bull :p

Not if Sam Michael was in charge.

Has he been promoted from Kettle duties yet?

If it was a mistake or a failure on Red Bull's part, I would agree.

However, this incident is McLaren's fault. As were the multiple failures during testing which meant that some teams couldn't do all the long-run running they wanted to.

As far as the alternators are concerned, Renault accepted responsibility for that as well.

Alternator problems also affected Lotus (although not as much), ditto the KERS issue. Pic had a KERS issue last weekend.

What with the Power Units next year, reliability will be fun. You won't simply be able to continue with an ERS failure...

I was trying (and failing) to be humorous by pointing out the links with Red Bull's very aggressive push on reliability. I know this is a McLaren (ES)-wide issue.

Didn"t McLaren get the ECU contract because Microsoft as a thrid party to McLaren were invloved?

Basically two biggest sponsor places almost empty: sides of the rollbar (only small Acer and Dark Dog) and sidepod

On February 14, 2001, the cash-strapped Prost team suddenly looked like the team to beat ahead of the F1 season.

Jean Alesi, having already topped two of the previous four days of testing at Estoril, lapped the Portuguese circuit over a second quicker than anybody else had managed - or would manage - during the winter.

The rumours of the AP04 running massively underweight in a bid to grab instant headlines and convince potential sponsors to part with their cash, flew instantly - especially as the car had also gone second fastest at Barcelona two weeks previously. The rumours were right too. Sponsors secured, the car showed its true colours, scoring only four points all year.

A picture from that Estoril test...

They did the same in 1999 as well don't forget.

Yeah I remember Microsoft being involved as well..

Webber probably had an upside down BSOD then

Random fact I didn't know: Drivers don't get any more penalties for speeding in the pits, but they have to pay 1000$ for each point they gain. So maybe if we see someone in the 10th place, he will drop back because he can't pay for the point. :p

Author:  kals [ Wed Mar 20, 2013 8:16 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: 2013 Random F1 Discussion

That is a fact that I only found out about earlier today. The loss of the penalties is part of an agreement with the new higher costs for a super license.

However there is confusion among the drivers, who still received pit lane speeding penalties in Australia.
